the assualt charge has been dropped

An assault charge against England and Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard has been dropped.

The midfielder still faces a charge of affray in connection with an incident at a nightclub in Southport.

The 28-year-old had been in the Lounge Inn to celebrate a 5-1 win over Newcastle United when a disturbance broke out on 29 December.

A 34-year-old man had suffered facial injuries, North Sefton Magistrates' Court was told.

Gerrard was not required to make a formal plea in relation to the affray charge which he now faces.

The footballer, and six other defendants, will have a plea and case management hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on 3 April.

An assault charge against Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been dropped, a court heard today.

The player still faces a charge of affray following a bar room brawl, however.

Businessman Marcus McGee (aged 34) allegedly lost a tooth and suffered a cut face in the fight in Southport, Merseyside.

Gerrard (aged 28) who appeared at North Sefton Magistrates’ Court today, had been in the bar in the early hours of December 29 celebrating Liverpool’s 5-1 defeat of Newcastle United

the trial will not be until later this year. he has been committed to liverpool crown court on Friday 3rd April 2009, I doubt the trial will start then, there will be legal arguments etc leading to trial much later. they are appearing charged with affray, it would appear from this that the assault charge is dropped

well the police will be pursuing the affray charge based on video evidence, there will probably be a prima case first to see if there is a likelihood of conviction

Before it gets to the crown it may be thrown out, they will have to have a jury if a scouse liverpool supporting jury are picked well erm........ however there could be an evertonain jury and they would send him to death row  :glare:

probably just a fine and community service if found guilty, worst case scenario sent down for 6 months but I just cant see that happening.

When the lad who threw the bottle has had his charges dropped a few weeks ago.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

tHANKS - WELL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE - BUT RAFA WAS ASSURED IN HIS SUPPORT OF HIM - GIVEN HIS ACCOUNT, SO HOPEFULLY CHARGES WILL BE DROPPED.
