Liverpool FC: Pepe Reina signs new six-year contract with Reds
Apr 8 2010 by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post

Football - Liverpool FC: PEPE REINA has given Liverpool a major boost ahead of tonight’s Europa League showdown with Benfica by signing a new contract.

Reina has finally put pen to paper on a six-year deal that replaces his current agreement and extends his Anfield commitment to 2016.

The goalkeeper has been Liverpool’s outstanding performer of a difficult campaign, having already proven a huge success since arriving from Villarreal for £6million in the summer of 2005.

Reina is on course to win a fourth Golden Gloves award for keeping the most clean sheets during a Premier League campaign.

He is the latest Liverpool to sign a long-term contract, following the example of Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt, Daniel Agger and Yossi Benayoun during the past 12 months.

Reina said: “Why commit? Because I am happy here and I think the club is happy too. I see no reason to leave.”

good news that he gets a 6 year contract
just aswell as he looks like he is going to be the new Captain next year if our two best players leave if Rafa stays.

Great news securing our safest pair of hands since Clem, six years of stability between the posts.

Well done Rafa mate.

It's great news as he's a top keeper and seems to be a nice fella too. Was definately an extremely shrewd purchase at 6 million quid.

Probably the best keeper weve had since I have been watching Liverpool going back to when Clemence was in goal. Reina is terrific no doubt about it.

Great news!! and it could go a good way towards convincing Torres to stay....

All we need now is for Hicks to have a heat attack and die,  and when Gillet finds out while eating a pretzel he chokes to death

Best keeper in the world, hands down. There's not a better shot stopper, positional awareness, and distributer with the ball at his feet, or from or either out of his hands anywhere. Brilliant bit of buisness there.
