we should be fine in the group as long as we get a decent start this time around. last years start to the group was a complete disgrace.

--

September 16 v Marseille (a) Saturday home to Stoke
October 1 v PSV Eindhoven (h) Saturday away to Man City *
October 22 v Atletico Madrid (a) Sunday away to Chelsea (after they host Roma)
November 4 v Atletico Madrid (h) Saturday evening West Brom (home)
November 26 v Marseille (h) Monday night home to West Ham
December 9 v PSV Eindhoven (a) Saturday home to Hull

* As City are in Europe (Thurs 2nd Oct) the match scheduled for Saturday 4th October will likely be pushed back to the Sunday or even Monday, and could be against a side jaded by being knocked out in the first round proper.

a lot less challenging than in previous seasons and will hopefully allow us a certain consistency and momentum in both competitions. the way we are playing at the moment we need every bit of help and good news we can get.

Interesting stuff, Andy.  I like the look of that. :nod

...We get enough luck as it is apparently  :glare:  Makes a change to have a few reasonable ties following on.

I hadn't heard the song of Joaquin Sabina, and I think it's a great one.

In a nutshell it explains what Atletico is all about, it remembers the players, the places, the glories, and the defeats.

So that the mates understand what's Atletico philosophy, the song says things like "What a way to win, what a way to lose", meaning they assume the years of suffering as their very own. Suffering is part of their philosophy and they're proud of that.

Atletico watch: Very convincing 4-0 against Malaga. I watched bits of the second half, but couldn't pay much attention because I was taking a coffee with the missus. The line up I posted is the one that ended the game, the starting eleven had 11 foreigners for the first time in Atletico's history -- which is a bit sad.

While Aguirre likes to rotate, rotation is not the key to this Atletico, as I said a lot of times, this club needed to stop the mad sacking of coaches they used to do, they used to have 2 or 3 coaches a season!

But now the Mexican has been given time and the results are coming, first, qualifying for the Champions, and now looking solid for the Liga.
