i like the part where it says we'll take 25% of any future sale. good business sense there. but i wished he was given more chances to play nonetheless. watched some clips of him and was impressed. i hope Pacheco isnt leaving as well.

Not being funny here--I'm genuinely curious since I've seen some impressive clips of the lad too...

What was it like before youtube compilations and live streams of reserve matches?  Did fans have to honestly wait for young players to break into the first team before they even knew their names, let alone decided whether they were up to it?  It seems to me that, with so much premature hype built up around young players today, we all run the risk of get a little attached to these lads before they've done anything of note in a Liverpool shirt.  I guess my instinct here is to give the various coaching staffs who have worked with Nemeth the benefit of the doubt.  Rafa and his staff clearly didn't think he was ready to make the step up for us and now Roy and his staff have reached the same conclusion.  Maybe that's evidence enough to suggest that the lad wasn't up to it, regardless of how lethal he was for the reserves (Neil Mellor anyone?) or how exciting he looked in a clips package?

fair enough, Nemeth's goalscoring rate in Greece, where he scored 3 goals is nothing to get excited about but there was a point in time where many posters including myself were baffled as to why Ngog was given the chance time and time ahead of Nemeth and even Pacheco. in time, we have seen Ngog improve but the question is why isnt the same time and chance with the first team being given to Nemeth.

Nemeth played 5 games, and scored 3 goals in the under-20 WC, was named young Hungarian player of the year in 2006, young Liverpool player of the year 2008 and has a really good scoring record with the Hungarian under-21 teams at all levels. he couldnt have been that bad can he?

He was never given a chance in the first team (unlike Mellor) and really ought to have played a season or two ago instead of Voronin. He could hardly have done any worse.

At this stage in his career he can't afford to be sitting on the bench twiddling his thumbs. He needs games and considering he never played a competitive first team match for us, we've done well to secure a £1m fee and a 25% sell-on clause.

It's an interesting one, mate.  On the one hand, his record for his country and his (presumed) quality for the reserves suggest he's a prospect that should be carefully considered.  On the other hand, he was loaned to a Greek club (surely a statement in itself) where he didn't exactly pull up trees.  I guess it's one of those situations where I take the less than exciting position that there are experts within the club that know a lot better than me whether this kid has what it takes and it's clear that those experts have decided he does not.

And, to get this thread back on topic, that goes for Aquilani.  I think those that have made the Morientes comparison are on to something.  Morientes wasn't a rubbish player, he just didn't take to the Premiership as readily as was hoped.  Consequently, he lost confidence, further impacting his form and meaning that he wasn't an especially reliable option.  Eventually, he got shipped out, which was the right decision.  I think the same holds for Alberto.  A quality player in Italy to be sure but it seems like he was someone that really struggled to come to terms with the pace and physicality of the English game.  I think Rafa sussed this out in the second half of last season and used him sparingly as a result.  Roy's clearly come to the same conclusion and, as with Nemeth, I have faith that those in the know inside Melwood are calling this right.

It's a catch 22 he won't reach his best unless he's playing. I doubt that Hodgson has reached this decision recently. I think Aquilani has been shipped out because of his wages, the fact that there could be at least 5 midfielders in the squad this season and that if doesn't improve this season on the pitch Liverpool would lose too much money to sell him back to Italy next summer. This way they'll only lose £4 million when he returns to Italy next summer. I also suspect that this decision has been taken by the powers that be above Hodgson as the possibility of Liverpool joining the RBS debt restructuring plan appears ever more likely.

I think you're misinterpreting, mate.  Sending him out on loan to Italy is a clear as day message that Hodgson doesn't think he's good enough and that he hopes to recoup at least some reasonable money for him come January or next summer rather than sell him for veritable peanuts now.  All of this stuff about farming him out to get some regular football and expecting he'll come back to Liverpool and perform for us is just a huge smokescreen.  Bottom line: Hodgson doesn't rate him and is putting him in the shop window in a league where he has a chance of getting us some cash back if he has a good season.

Nail on head. Lots of stupid comments in this thread. Why not sell him in early July? Because Hodgson had yet to see the player up close. Why a loan deal instead of selling him? I'm guessing it's because no one wants to buy him. Why sell him at all? Because Hodgson clearly doesn't rate him.

I'm a bit disapointed, I would have liked to have seen the lad given a chance to show he belongs in England but when Rafa wasn't playing him last season despite him being fit then I guess the writing was on the wall. At least young Pachecho may get a look in this season, at least that's what i'm hoping.

So he goes to Juventus till next May comes back Hodgson says again he's part of his plans for 11-12 (like he said for 09/10 back in July) watches him in training next July/August and thinks he's not good enough and ships him off?

I don't buy this and I didn't say the board forced him into anything. I think Hodgson has been made aware of the club's dire financial predicament and figured given that £20 mil was paid to buy Aquilani and he's on high wages that it's best to get rid gradually.

Just don't think roy rates him tis all . I do like , i think he would have been ace this season ,but i'm not the manager. It's no good him keeping him if he doesn't rate him ,i'm just worried about who he gets replaced with or if indeed he does get replaced.

Maybe he doesn't get replaced 'cos we don't have any money to splash anyway....with Juve paying his wages, it obviously means less going out on a weekly basis and you'd imagine the owners and banks are happy about that.
On a side note, I watched Juve vs. AC Milan this evening....good luck to Aquaman if that's where he wants to be - what a thoroughly dull event, and I'm glad I don't have to watch it week in week out...
