I think he was earning £3.7m a year for Roma? God knows how much we were giving him a week.

this just shows that we needed a manager who could work with the funds he is given, sadly Rafa couldnt and this signing shows just how important it is to get it right when you are on a limited budget
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Reports last year when he signed reported £3.4m per year. Aint a clue what that works out at per week, but thick at school and it's kind of never changed !!  :p

If Aquilani had been fully fit and ready to play when we signed him, he would probably have had a good season, although not as good as the man he was replacing, Alonso. Benitez's biggest mistake was signing a player who was injured, and by the time he was fit, we were out out of the league championship and the cups. Benitez squandered the money available for transfers last summer, but this is old news.

I don't know how much he cost, but Voronin is possibly the worst player I've ever seen play for Liverpool.

If the likes of Cole, Lucas, Gerrard and Poulsen are why Aquilani can't get in the side this season what hope will he have in twelve months time of getting in the team after another year in serie A?

when you consider the amount we spent, and the player we sold (Alonso) then yes. For me this is the worst signing in our history, which is made all the worse for the fact that the 20 million was all we really had that summer and it was so precious.

We should have made the decision at the end of last season then to sell him but because of the uncertainty over Rafa and who would come in the club wouldn't make that decision.

Instead Hodgson has gone for the worst of all worlds farming him back to Italy on loan purely to bump his price up by next summer. It's a fudge and a decision I don't understand at all. I'll be amazed if ever plays another game for Liverpool.

i fail to see why people are making Roy the bad guy here. Rafa didn't rate Aquilani either, and he signed him!

A loan is the only option...either that or sell him for 6 million, which is all he's worth due to his injury record. However, i agree he wont play for Lfc again, but that's not a bad thing.

A loan deal is the wrong choice - if after seeing him in training and not giving him a proper chance the manager decided he wasn't good enough then he should of sold him at least and then we could of at least had a bit of money for a replacement - maybe buying him was wrong in he first place but loaning him out is just as bad . CM is looking thin in the creative stakes .

Rafa would have given Aquilani a chance this season. This idea that Aquilani needs first team football back in Italy in order to make it at Liverpool is ridiculous. Either he'll do it or he won't. I get the impression that Hodgson is panicking a bit as no bid has been forthcoming for Mascherano. He's clearly worried about five central midfielders at the club this season and the likes of Spearing pushing through.

My guess is that Aquilani wouldn't expect to play every week and doesn't really want to go on loan at all. It would have surely made more sense for Hodgson to have put him up for sale when he arrived in early July. Sending him out on loan is saying we're not sure if you're good enough.

It's just a fudge and a bizarre decision given that Hodgson said after signing Poulsen that he needed a large squad this season.

How do you know Rafa would have given him a chance are you his confidant?. He had him on the bench 27 times last season and banged straight back on the bench after a few quality performances last season, so what makes you come to this conclusion?.
