On Offal website:

Liverpool FC today confirmed they have agreed a deal with AS Roma for the transfer of Italian international Alberto Aquilani, subject to a medical.
Liverpool concluded their discussions with Roma once the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid was finally agreed.

Aquilani, who recently celebrated his 25th birthday, is expected to feature heavily for Italy in next year’s World Cup finals.

Rafa Benitez said: "Alberto is a very good player and I'm delighted we've reached agreement with Roma for his transfer. He will travel to Merseyside later this week for a medical. Alberto has a winning mentality and great experience in both Serie A and the Champions League.

"He has long been recognised as a top class talent in Italy, captaining his country at both Under 19 and Under 21 levels before establishing himself in the senior national side."

When will he be fit though? :(

Will have a look but its breaking news on SSN. They are going to tell us the fee after the break....

Welcome to Liverpool Football Club Alberto. I hope he settles in better than his fellow Italy compatriot. Who knows maybe this could help Doss settle in more. Or is that just being too optimistic?  :D

Best thing to do. Only a few weeks left so we needed to get things moving. Shame he will miss the start of the season.

He is just the player we need, a real attacking player who can hopefully help us to open up thoe stubborn defences. That cost us the league last season.

FFS Bav you could have given us a little bit more to start us off mate. :D

I think he is supposed to be a very talented footballer, but the big gamble is on his fitness and whether he can adapt to the prem given the more physical nature. I think we could (possibly should) have gone for a more guaranteed success rather than gambling , but maybe Rafa thinks he is so talented he is worth the extra risk?

We wanted and needed a little more from our central midfield and I think if he manages to stay fit he could well supply it. I read today that Milan made an offer for Fabregas, who I would consider a cast iron certainty to be a success, but no doubt there will be shouts of we couldn't afford him and Arsenal wouldn't sell him to us anyway, so I will leave it there    :D
