A Reality / Sanity Check - DONT PANIC !

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Leonmc0708 » Tue Jan 20, 2009 4:03 pm

Liverpool are second only on goal difference to Manchester United, although they now have a game in hand, and, while this may have felt like a defeat, it is very far from a disaster for Liverpool. A disaster would be, as Benitez readily points out, if they had reached the mid-point in January out of touch with the title race and eliminated from the Champions League. In many respects Benitez's team are in great shape but, as all champions must, they have not yet demonstrated that they are capable of overcoming each and every obstacle.

Every season since I have been on football forums, Liverpool fans have wanted one thing. Not a new car or a new striker or the elusive right wonger. Just " to be in with a sniff at the turn of the year. "

Well guess what, this season we are.

Not only that, but even without our best striker in the last five years, withstanding the contract problems of the manager and some key players, in the face of the poor form we have shownw in the last month or so. In spite of the fact that we have drawn five league games at home, and regardless of the fact that United and Chelsea are so so superior to us on and off the park (according to some on here) AND even though our biggest signing of the summer has belly flopped.

We are level on points with United.

We are within a goal or two of the goal difference figures of our most apparent competitor.

We have only lost one league game all season.

DONT PANIC !

I think the post you have made is leon is a very good way to look at it.

OK we're second, we havent had our 1st squad fit all of the time and we havent been consistant of late. Its like what Rafa says, we in there with the league, a good FA cup run and in the late stages of the Champions League.....

so is it all doom and gloom?? no way...lets just see what happens, in rafa we trust.

Ive just used the term reality check in the Keane thread albeit in a different way.

My basic view is Rafa and his media work of late although it has blown up a bit in the eyes of the media was a good move as this squad now needs a reality check and it needs to toughen up and face up to the pressure of a league race.  The Mancs and Chelsea have thrived on it and we need to as well.  Keane needs to score simple as then he takes the pressure off himself.  We dont know if he blames Rafa or not.

We have dreamt of being in this position and we need to step up as a team.

And the Mancs although they reckon they have won the media war are in a race with us and that sends a cold shiver down Fergies spine as losing to us would destroy them.  We need to crank up the pressure on them as they are happy to do with us and Rafa even if he got it wrong has at least stood up to the Mancs and said we are here and we are in this to beat you.

I do agree that we have done well enough to be at least still be in with a shout.

It is hard to believe after SO many dropped pts, we are still currently level on points with Man Utd (or more realistically - 3pts behind after their game in hand, which aren't in the bag yet anyway).

There are still 16 games or a whopping 48pts to fight for. For that matter, if you ignore form for a minute.. all top FIVE teams can still win it.

We can still win it IF we start embarking on our usual good run IMMEDIATELY.

YNWA. Keep the faith.

Why should we worry , we have thrown away a 7 point advantage over the mancs but they are only in front of us on goal difference so whats the problem, oh, they also have a game in hand..... but so what.

Our best player is in court in a couple of days, our new £20million pound striker can't concentrate on his football because every time there's a stoppage he thinks he has to come off, and we can't seem to get out of this silly habit of drawing games. So lets have a real reality check!

You are a cynic Saint or is a cynic what an idealist calls a realist :D

Me on the other hand Im not angry just grateful to Rafa that we are at war with Man Utd and Im loving it.  3 points behind I love it it will just hurt them when we win the league and the champions league with inferior players and a fat spanish waiter and no money

I hope that :censored: retires with us back on the perch it will be like Braveheart when the dying King gets told that Wallace is the father of the heir and the last word he hears is freedom :buttrock
