Totally awesome game, well done Cahill on two awesome goals. Must say that I agreed with what the commentator was saying about playing central players in the middle of the park instead of Kewell.  We were sopossed to take advantage of our height last night but how many crosses from wings did we have? not very many. Our corner count must have been terrible as well.  We need Kewell out on the wing if we want to have any chance  of decent width.

3 points is 3 points.  If we can grind 1 point out of Brazil we will put huge pressure on Croatia. C'mon AUSSIE!!!!!

Fair comment Lionheart, I'm forgetting how long it is since you were last in the finals .
Good luck against Croatia , hope I'm proved wrong and your lads sneak a win (Viduka to score ? ) that takes you through to the knock out stages .

You played well for the last 6 mins. In that sense you deserved the victory but overall a draw was the fairest result. Japan we're by far the better team overall if they could finish or cross you'd of been dead and buried by half time.

Kewell definitely wasn't fit, wonder whether he'll be rested for the Brazil game?

Well I saw the whole game yesterday night, and the game kept me in the TV the whole 90 minutes, which means the game was good to watch.

Australia deserved the victory and never deserved to be behind in the score. Japan got what they deserved, they pretended to be Italy to keep a 1-0 in their pocket, they speculated, and they realised they're not Italy, and they'll never be.

Australia has a squad of competent proffesionals that might not be sheer quality, but can complicate your life. Viduka fought a lot yesterday, I quite liked him.

Didn't like the Kewell-King-of-Australia-the-team-around-him, experiment. He hasn't played in that position regularly, and Australia didn't use the wings properly through out the game, and that was one of their problems, if you want to play with one forward, which is nice in my book, you must use the wings properly.

Perfect timing of Hiddink to put Aloisi on the field when they needed it most.

I'd love Australia getting through due to their work and passion, but I think Croatia is a superior team, I'm afraid :(

Cheers Sabre. Like you I think Kewell in the middle of the park was the wrong tactic. His trade is down the left while Cahill is through the middle.

An Aussie likes nothing better than to be listed as the official 'underdog'. We love doing the unexpected.

We were underdogs against Japan so being underdogs against Brazil & Croatia will be just fine thanks. We'll take it. Bring on the big boys.

As I said previously, just being at this tournament is reward in it's self. Any victory just makes it all the more sweeter.  :D

The ball was basically in the back of the net by the time Takahara had fouled Schwarzer, it made no difference. The initial contact with the first Japanese player caused the problem, and he DIDN'T foul Schwarzer, Schwarzer just ran straight into him while he had his eye on the ball.

IMO it was a goal, but it didn't matter in the end anyway.

Thanks for your opinion LFC#1. Personally I think you are wrong on two counts;
1. It most certainly WILL matter if it comes down to goal differences on who qualifies and who doesn't for the next round. I'd be really p*ssed off if that one goal prevented Australia from advancing.

2. The keeper was impeded (perhaps unintentionally) and therefore prevented (by foul means), from getting to the ball. The correct decision is an indirect free kick to Australia. Even the referee himself has conceded this. What more do you need?    :shifty

I think there might be a few vacant positions as a referee once the group stages are finished. Interested?

Another correct decision would have been for Japan to be given a penalty around the 85th minute or so when Cahill brought down a Japenese player in the box. To go on even more, the foul should have warranted a card. Which should have been Cahill's second. So, he shouldn't of even been on the pitch to score his second.

I think it's ridiculous for any of you Aussies to complain about the referee hurting your chances a bit in any way because of a mistake of his, and say what should have been done. The Japanese have more to complain about, in my opinion.   :D

I don't think the Japanese have much to complain about at all. Sure they were unlucky not to have a penalty awarded, but the amount of chances they squandered when the run of play was with them, is astonishing. They could have been 3 or 4 up, and for that they only have themselves and the heat to blame.

Cahill needs to curb his agression when he comes on. He really tried to have an impact, which is great, but nearly got 2 yellows in the process.

Other than that, well in aussie !!1

I couldn't believe how the Japanese self-destructed.
