Never a penalty, but Materazzi never shoudl have been sent off either - Italy looked pretty comfortable up until that point.

Very cruel on Australia, but they have done themselves proud.

Unlucky Oz. I only saw the second half because I only got in from school at half time. It was never a penalty. It makes you think that the referee couldn't be bothered playing extra-time. Oz deserved extra time. Unfortunately I don't think Oz pushed enough after Materazzi was sent off but credit to the italians for defending well. I am gutted for Oz. Good memories though for Oz fans and players. They have got further than ever before. The 2-2 game will never be forgotten. You Aussies can be proud of your team and I have no doubt that you will bounce back better and stonger next time.

WELL DONE OZ  :buttrock

f.ucking cheating scumbags... useless referees... how the f.uck did he give that?  Without doubt one of the worse decisions I've ever seen.

Unlucky Australia you didn't deserve that

Football's a cruel game. If Italy had lost they would have been up in arms about the Materazzi red card, which was never a straight red. Instead Australia get cheated with a poor penalty decison.

Why do refs always have to make a name for themselves in all the wrong ways?

We should have taken advantage of extra man and while certainly looked far more dangerous when Aloisi came on we just didnt have that killer touch.
Totally gutted over the way we went out but very proud of my team

Did the Southern Cross proud

Many thanks boys and best of luck to Guus your a legend

They were totally dominating for ages before that aswell, then he goes and dives over the guys body in the last possible second before extra time!

Through out this tournament I have been a strongly critical of referees but today I'm not going to say anything apart from...if you are going to play on the big stage then you have to expect to take a few knocks (questionable decisions). This is one hell of a first knock but we'll get up from the canvas and we'll come back.   :;):

You have to hand it to the Italians though, they defended magnificently. Absolutely amazing demonstration on how to defend with ten men.

F.uck!!!  Hate to see a team go out that way.

Well done to the Aussie lads, though.  They've done themselves proud and will have a bright future ahead.  Hopefully qualifying through Asia will work out well for them and they'll be gracing the WC for many years to come!

Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea:
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page let every stage
Advance Australia Fair,
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia Fair.

(from a proud Aussie) :buttrock

Good night.
