There is no point posters talking like they actually know how much a player is on when everyone knows that they don’t know. We all just work off speculation.

Johnson signed his contract extension during the Damien Comolli administration, so it would not surprise me if he is earning upwards of £100k per week. It’s reported that some crazy contracts were handed out during the administrations of Christian Purslow and Comolli, even young players like Pacheco and Flanagan, and it’s what caused our wage bill to rise so quickly.

If we can agree an extension for Johnson for less than £100k per week than great. He’ll be in 30s this time next season so if he decides to run down his contract then it’s not the end of the world.

i wouldnt believe those reports about 130k a week as he'd be long gone if that was the case  id say its more around 80-90k.
johnson is a decent player and that has been highlighted in his absence, not a world beater but a decent player nonetheless. at his age (29) he is going to want a decent salary as it could be his last contract.
if he is on 80-90k then it would be wise to offer him a 3year deal on that with a loyalty payment at the end. either that or he could leave on a bossie which wont give us any money to seek a decent replacement with.

fwiw SS i agree.  its an obscene in fact vulgar amount of money for anyone to be earning per week, the thoughts of shreks pay packet alone makes me vomit especially for kicking a ball but in fairness clubs make serious money now compared to back in the day. the tv money alone is mental.
our wage bill has seriously dropped since fenway took over and they have added some lucrative deals through sponsorship. the fact that ticket prices are increasing is because its another revenue stream that can be milked because i doubt its to do with player wages as they have been hell bent in reducing that from when they walked through the door.
it could very well be for a good cause though    a new stadium or galactico's ?    which one is your money on? literally speaking of course

After listening to Carragher and Redknap discussing our 3 CB's at the back formation and how it would suit Johnson in the role of an attacking wing back I'm hoping that BR maybe sticks with it when Glen returns.

I've often mooted the idea that he might be better employed as a RM rather than a RB as I've always thought the fella looks at his best when trying to get forward. Taking our last match as an example surely a fit Glen Johnson playing the role recently filled by Sterling would have been a massive improvement ? Defensively he'd be much much better and although maybe not as quick or "tricky" as Sterling I think Johnson still has more than enough skill and experience in his locker when going forward to provide a more than substantial threat.

Can't wait for his return and too see how BR uses him.

Its not speculation. Its fact. Johnson takes £120,000 a week.

Its actually just over as its an annual salary of £6,250,000.

To be honest i think on the ball he was his usual self. Without the ball he wasn't.

For me Johnson is a FAR FAR better defender than he's made out to be. Its with the ball I think he's atrocious and amateurish at times.

Had a shocker... weaknesses exposed. Typical Johnson for me.

weve seen many performances like that from him before since he signed. like stu i agree that he isnt as bad as made out defensively. its in the final 3rd that he looks lost at times and ends up running out of ideas. he either needs to make his mind up and get to the by-line and square it or cut in for a shot.
maybe he should have been on the left with flanno taking the right.

You can't really say that though for me because Flannagan had a belter.

Also if you do that you're changing two players rather than one.

I think if you're limited going forward its easier to play on the left flank as a full back as you can come side and support the play alot better. It does make the over lap more tricky though.

Thats mainly due to Johnson's poor decision making. Enrique is much better on the other side at linking the play, knowing when to attack and when to hold.

I definately think if you play a right back who is weak going forward (and is fairly adaptable) they tend to fair better on the left. Carragher was a good example, as is Johnson and also Flannagan. They tend to have the game infront of them more often rather than having to go down the line. Its a more natural pass when playing at left back for a right footer to play a ball into midfield and also down the line when playing their...  I think their touches force them into the right positions as well and they always seem to have more of a "play maker" effect on the game than they would in a natural position. If you watch good wide players they take a very different touch to average wide player, good wide players usually get the ball out from under their feet in one touch... midfielders and average full backs often turn back inside and look to keep possession.

Zambrotta was an absolute expert at playing the "playmaker full back" role...

Its why I think of Alves as a very unusual full back as he plays more like a play maker than a winger.

Glen Johnson insists that Liverpool will be able to manage without Steven Gerrard, who is facing at least a month out with a hamstring injury.

Gerrard, 33, was forced to limp off during the second half of Saturday’s 4-1 Premier League win over West Ham at Anfield.

The Reds captain is set to undergo a scan on Monday to determine the extent of the problem, sources have told ESPN FC, although early indications are that he could miss the festive period.

Gerrard played his part against the Hammers as Liverpool bounced back from a defeat at Hull six days earlier to record a fifth successive home win and climb back up to second in the table.

But Johnson insists that the club have the strength in their squad to manage without the midfielder, despite a testing run of December fixtures that includes trips to Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea.

The right-back, who took the captain’s armband after Gerrard went off, told the Liverpool Echo: “Any team without Stevie is going to miss him and hopefully it's not as bad as it looks but we've got a good squad.

“We've bounced back from the defeat to Hull and we couldn't have done much more in the games against Norwich and West Ham.

“We have scored 20 goals in our last five home games which is quite impressive. It is what all the top teams try to do -- make their home ground a fortress.

“We have some tough away games coming up. We only worry about the next one and I am sure we will step it up for the so-called bigger teams.

“If we can start scoring a few more goals away and pick up a few more points it will blend in nicely with our home record.

“We are good enough to be up there. If we keep picking up points, it will take care of itself.”
