Well said RBG.

Quite right Kenneth, there's no news, no excitement, no challenge for the title so folks are bored stiff willing to post any verbal sh!te simply to fill in time between w@nks.

I think you're right RBG about the author's name. I have no idea who he is tbh. But some of the stuff like 'passing being in Liverpool's DNA' I thought was good. In fact after re-reading it again I don't think it's that bad or far off the mark tbh, if there is an agenda there, I'm sorry but I've missed it (sincerely).

I don't hold with these conspiracy theories either mate ,and I cant argue with the one touch passing being part and parcel of this club down through the years
but I think its decidedly easy to take a pot shot at the reds lately, and there is a seemingly perpetual queue of pundits and media hacks only to willing to do
precisely that .

Its certainly not churlish of me to expect considerably more from a fella that writes for the Echo ,anyway the DNA remark would be less credible if the reds
had been playing this way without veering off on a tangent and attempting to mix it up ....Rodgers has come in and resurrected this style of play he firmly
believes that if you have 11 players equally adept and comfortable with the ball at their feet then success will eventually ensue .

Excellent post. The reality of the situation is that our decline started several seasons ago and we've been slowly inchIng towards the mid table side that we've now become. No manager be it Rodgers or anyone else would have stopped this (the King had the chance with the Torres money, but that was a disaster which IMO has set us back several years).  I look at other teams who have finished out Of the top 4 and have been forced to field youngsters (Villa etc) and most of these teams have been battling against relegation. Considering we've had to field the likes of Wisdom, Sterling & Suso  in the same team (neither of whom were really ready for the first eleven on a consistant basis) it's remarkable that we're even within touching distance of the top 6-8 teams. The fact that fans are expecting us to challenge or be closer fo the top 4 with 3 players who were playing youth team football (never mInd reserves) a few years ago is ludicrous.

brilliant tactical change again today to bring henderson on for suso.

henderson has to retain his place for swansea after that imo.

i was not a roger fan without seeing his performance first as LFC manager,
while i did not share the enthusiasm of rogers' like some fans do here but i am slowly seeing what
this is all about.
our manager is slowly winning me over with his technique astute of the game, fielding players
regardless of name, age or race and his football philosophy.
during the era of rafa towards the end of kenny's our only academy production worth mentioning is stephan warnock and martin kelly.
upon rogers arrival suddenly we have an influx of young talents, and i am sure ince wounldnt had left for blackpool if rogers was manager.
Jan will be an important period, sign a good striker and we have a chance to push for top 4.

We've been really unfortunate this season because our points tally doesn't match our performances. We should have beaten City, United and Everton. Individual errors and poor refereeing decisions saw us come away with only 2 points out of a well deserved 9.

The only really poor performance we've had in the league was against Arsenal and that was when Gerrard and Suarez had shocking games by their standards.

I've seen a few mentions of the impact that Henderson made on the game, but only caught the MOTD highlights and it wasn't really obvious what happened there. What's the difference between Hendo y'day and the previous games. Just a confidence thing, or did he have more time due to a 'lesser quality' side?

Brendan Rodgers inspired by evening with host of Liverpool FC legends

BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed how an evening spent with a host of Liverpool FC legends has provided extra motivation in the “monumental challenge” of restoring the club to its former glory.

The Reds boss was a guest at this week’s Liverpool Former Players’ Association charity dinner, in the Anfield trophy room.

He felt like “an impostor” among the likes of Ron Yeats, Alan Kennedy and Phil Neal, but says he was buoyed by the support he was given after a tough start to the season.

Liverpool go into today’s home clash with Wigan in 13th place in the Premier League, and looking to break a frustrating run of three successive league draws.

“I loved every minute of that charity night,” said Rodgers.

“There were guys there like big Ron Yeats, Ronnie Whelan, Gordon Wallace, Alan Kennedy, Gary Gillespie, Jan Molby, Phil Neal, Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler – it was just fantastic.

“I felt like an impostor but it was incredible. Listening to the stories and speaking with these guys who are true greats of the club brought me to one of the reasons why I came to the club.

“It was a wonderful night and nights like that serve as a great motivation for me.

“What’s even more inspiring is the attitude of those players I spoke to. They know the era that they were in, they understand the difficulties now and they are very supportive.

“They know the work that needs to be done here to get us anywhere near where they were at.

“I knew coming in here it was a monumental challenge but it was one I wanted to embrace.”

Rodgers says the style of football he has installed at Anfield is a nod to Liverpool’s illustrious past –  a variation on the pass and move philosophy which served the club so well down the decades.

“I didn’t come in here and say I was reinventing the wheel,” he said. “I’m not that arrogant to suggest that I’m doing that. It’s not rocket science.

“I know this club has had a way of working for many years. I’ve come in and attached to me is a certain way of doing things which I’m very proud of.

“I will always fight to protect that way of working, but I’ve been brought here because of my way of work.

“This is a way of working in tune with the football club and I’ve been brought in to bring that way back to Liverpool. That’s something that will take time.

“A lot of teams in the Premier League have had stable squads for a long time, even the likes of Wigan. We are trying to form something here and the philosophy is part of that."

Wigan were beaten 2-1 at home by West Brom last week but the 3-4-3 formation favoured by Roberto Martinez has proved successful on their travels.

“They have beaten Tottenham and Southampton away this season and it’s going to be tough,” said Rodgers.

“We’ve got evidence of that from last season when they came to Anfield and won.

“I know Franco di Santo well as I worked with him when he came to Chelsea from Chile. He has improved each year. Arouna Kone is direct and fast and in those transition moments, if there is a direct pass, he can obviously affect it with his pace.”

Having started with 3-5-2 at Chelsea last weekend, Rodgers is expected to return to 4-3-3 on home soil this afternoon.

“It is a great credit to the players in terms of their flexibility,” he added. “We’ve used it a couple of times this season and at certain moments tactically it is something the players can flip to.

“In the first half last week, defensively we were solid enough but I felt it had an impact on our pressing, which we like to do from the front and it is easier to do that with three players.

“It worked reasonably well for us but didn’t give us the attacking impetus we wanted but it is something to look at in the future.”

"I felt like an impostor " :) .......I just love the man's humility ,a trait synonymous with some of our greatest managers ,that said, I also think Rodgers  comes across as a very driven individual brimming with huge self confidence .... I also believe the media and rival fan bases are mistakenly calling this an ego .

They couldn't be more wrong ,Brendan Rodgers has an assured persona because he believes he can genuinely transform this team into something resembling a top side that will consistently play the type of beautiful passing football the Kop  used to regularly breathe in .

His work ethic was just incredible.

There was a point in the game where literally the whole stadium stood and applauded where he chased the ball for about 2-3 minutes as Wigan attempted to pass it around it ended up in a bad pass by one of the Wigan players and fell to one of our players he gave them no time on the ball.

I think he realised he had a chance as he got majority of the game on saturday. He wanted to show what he could do. He also had a chance to get himself a goal but hit it over. But the lad done very well.

If he doesnt play vs Young boys he probably will get a start Sunday. However with Lucas close to returning im not sure how long it will last anyway.

Chelsea just sacked Di Matteo. What a ridiculous club, just 3 or 4 run of unsatisfactory results and he's fired. Imagine had Houllier, Benitez, Dalglish(2nd spell) and Rodgers been managing Chelsea? They all wouldn't last for a month.

He'd have to be an idiot to take that job. Di Matteo wins the Champions League with Chelsea and then several months later he's sacked. It's absolutely crazy, people like Roman Abramovich are destroying football.
