I wish Rafa would just kill it and say something highly offensive to MON

Is that what you do to lighten yourself up?  :D

Apologies if I got the wrong end of the stick. You will find that I wasn't hurling abuse though, and I actually referred to you as mate so as not to be aggressive. So fuck off!  :D

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has confirmed that Arsenal have hinted they may enter the race to sign midfielder Gareth Barry.

Premier League side Liverpool have made no secret of their desire to land Barry, and have been locked in negotiations with Villa over the player's sale for several weeks.

O'Neill said on Saturday that a deal still had not been struck between the two clubs, although he was hopeful of a resolution soon.

Over the weekend, The Gunners were linked with making an offer for England international Barry, with right-back Justin Hoyte potentially involved in the deal as part-exchange.

And O'Neill has revealed that Arsene Wenger's assistant manager Pat Rice spoke with the club, intimating that Arsenal could be set to step up their interest in Barry as they look for a replacement for Mathieu Flamini.

"Myself and Steve Walford both know Arsene Wenger's assistant Pat Rice," O'Neill told The Sun.

"He phoned Steve to ask how the Liverpool thing had gone and said that they might show an interest.

"At the end of the conversation Arsenal said 'that's fine' and that they'll let us know. That is exactly what happened."

Roughly translated:

MON - 'I was on the phone to Pat Rice getting some info on David Bentley who I'm trying to sign.  I said I can do fe.ck all until Liverpool give me the money for Barry though, but since Pat's a mate he said it would be ok to link Barry with Arsenal in the press to try and get Liverpool to panic and up their offer to my unrealistic asking price'

Better luck next time Martin.

mate i think it was an honest mistake though .

As for arsenal entering the race , yes i think they have but would they be willing to spend 18 million , i highly doubt so , i think the maximum they would offer is 12 to 15 million like us .

F.uck this transfer off seriously, let the ar.se get him instead, i dont want us to sell alonso and i dont particularly want barry either. If its the left wing position we're looking to fill then surely we can get a better alternative than an overpriced barry

18mil! feck orrf!

Villa order Barry back to training

by Tom Adams, 15 July 2008

Gareth Barry will be preparing himself for a frosty reception at Aston Villa after the club confirmed the wantaway midfielder will return to pre-season training on Wednesday.

Barry was banned from training and fined a significant sum at the start of the month after an outburst in a national newspaper in which he pleaded for a move to Liverpool and criticised manager Martin O’Neill for failing to address his future.

Liverpool have since failed with a succession of offers for the England international though and Barry’s possible move could further be jeopardised by Juventus’s declaration on Monday that they have dropped their interest in Reds star Xabi Alonso.

With a move to Anfield looking as distant a prospect as ever, Villa have now instructed the player to return to pre-season training and the manager he so publicly criticised.

“The club can confirm that Gareth Barry will be back in training at Bodymoor Heath tomorrow (Wednesday),” read a club statement.

O’Neill stated on Monday that Arsenal have also expressed an interest in the England midfielder.

Yeah i feel sorry for the guy, pleads to us to sign him, causing his club to be furious and now we might not even sign him after all and he'll be stuck in an awkward position with villa

Id rather we didnt get him though

Exactly, what a dirty trick that is by O'neill.  Surely anyone with a half a brain would know that Wenger wouldn't splash out 18 mill for Barry.
