Passing is very poor, I don't know whats wrong but we need to get it sorted now. No energy, no creativity, a sense of going through the motions and hoping for something to happen rather than driving on with direction with a bit of cohesion. Low confidence is apparent. Come on the leadeers on the pitch

I would do that too mate, but perhaps I might gamble with Pacheco rather than N'GOG.

I don't know what everyone else thinks, but here goes

Based on the first half

Torres - Petulant, and frustrated genius
Gerrard - Below par, struggling to impose himself

Although both probably represent out best chance of getting a goal, some glimpses of the magic.

Lucas - confirming my opinion of him that he is a Brazilian poor man's Ray Wilkins (never passes forward)

Insua & Johnson - both better attacking than defending, fine when they mostly do the former, worrying when they have to do the latter

Reina - My player of the season.  Nothing to change my mind.

Carragher - spirit is willing, body is weak

Agger - great coming out with the ball, never gets it right off a corner in either box

Aurelio & Yossi - not much impact on the game

finally

Aquilani - some nice touches, good positions.  Does he have enough energy, and strength ?  Would like to see more for £20 million, but this is his first start, so far to early to judge.

It was a fairly even first half to be honest. We still look chronicallky short of confidence, while they have a game plan which is allowing them to compensate for their limitations. I think Doyle has been absolutely excellent for them, very impressive. GYBS bigged him up pre-season, and based on this performance we could do worse than have a look if we can sell babel. He's won it in the air, held it up, worked the channels and the like like a really good player.

For us, not too many have been standout, well none really to be totally honest. We are though obviously much the better team, and if we get one we'll probably get three. It may just be one of those games where the first one has to be a dodgy penalty, a netbuster from Gerrard or even a ricochet off someones erse. Talking of ricochets offf someones erse, I'd bring Kuyt on for Benayoun. Although Dirk isn't exactly Captain Creative, I do think his presence gives Johnson the license to bomb on at will. The right back not for the first time looks about as likely as any to break the game right now.

Aquilani watch- Some nice touches here and there, the occasional foot in the tackle too. Not enough so far to make me change my ridiculously early judgement on him thoughI'm afraid. he's got plenty of time to do that yet though.

Surely we can pick it up a bit in the second half

Are passing and movement was all over the place and we look like a load of individuals out there playing football rather than a team

Its all Igors fault for picking Liverpool in the last man standing

Absolutely not, Rafa would never play a team with no Lucas as well as no Kuyt :D

Why gamble with pacheco mate , ngog's pace will worry wolves and the lad can finish if gets the chance 6 goals this season , pacheco on the other hand is relatively unproven
