Either way ,whatever some may think of the competition, if we picked up the Europa cup and finished in the top 4 (prem) and the Mancs meanwhile won fk all I'd be happy.

Put it this way, if the Mancs or Chelsea or even Arsenal were playing in the Europa league we'd be laughing oour a$$es off at them ... Its a second rate competition with 2nd rate teams (bar a couple)... We have other priorities and given the situation we find ourselves in we'd be better off focusing on other things and writing Europe off for this season... Winning the Europe league wont prove anything as far as im concerned... the likes of Benfica, Everton, Cska Moskow, AEK Athens...etc etc are clubs we should be beating anyways .. Thursday games with league games being 2 or 3 days later is going to be a major pain in the a$$ for us with the squad we have, wouldnt want Torres getting injured in an away game against Haboela Telaviv or whatever and missing 3 league games for it, not with ManCity, Tottenham and Villa seemingly challenging us for 4th spot and with Ngog and Voronin being our backup options.....

of course they will. that's the fickleness of the modern day football supporter.

i remember when boro got to the final a few years back. there were 40,000 who wanted tickets despite the fact that they were only getting 25,000 at home games.

one of my abiding memories of dortmund in 2001 was seeing eric meijer absolutely smashed off his trolley in the city centre.

Owzat, totally agree with you once again and well written points. Europa League still has its value for Rafa though to experience new formation on players (such as Kuyt, Aquilani, Lucas, Riera, Babel, Insua, Skrtel, Diego, El Zhar and the young lads). Other than that they desperately need match fitness.

I hope Rafa sets the correct priority this time instead of setting higher priority on European competition.

I think much depends on our league position as far as this is concerned. If we were comfortably in third, then by all means we might as well have a good shot at it. We might be of course by the time it all starts getting going, and if we are we are we may as well try and win it. If on the other hand we are in a dogfight for fourth (which is looking more likely at this stage) then obviously we have to manage our resources carefully.

If it came down to a priority list between finishing top four OR going all out for this thing, then it's a no brainer. As somebody has already mentioned, the games being on a Thursday are a right royal pain in the erse as well.

As far as Im concerned its only a Micky Mouse cup if you are in the Champions League....Now that we are out of "proper Europe" Im afraid we have to go all guns blazing to win this silly cup!Ask yourself this?
If we beat Roma in the final of the Europa Cup and UTD loose to Barcelona in the final of the C/L and we both finish in the top 4 who will have more to smile about. Its not a difficult question, unless you are arrogant.
Some people on here are arrogant, almost to a point of football snobbery....The attitude of"well we are out of the C/L and who cares now".....I just dont get it.

Through our own shi.ty,performances, injuries, bad management and whatever the feck else has went wrong we are out of the biggy....simple.But we just dont lie down and say ah well we are too good for the Europa cup...because being honest if we were too good for it we would not be in it.................what are we gonna do,play sh'it and get booted out and laughed at like Everton do every year?
Are we what...win it and finish in the top 4 is our aim now

Oh and personally I reckon we will finish 3rd in the League! :D

You've completely missed the point, we're talking about making sure we're in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE next season, not that winning trophies isn't important it just would be a disaster to go out of the CL this season AND not qualify for it next season. That's not to say we will get into the top four if we forsake the Europa League, but it will test our squad which is not only thin but also not exactly injury free at the moment.

I don't want the mancs winning trophies, but that is not in our control and winning a mickey mouse cup just to laugh at them is daft. You call others "arrogant", yet you've presumed we will finish top four and are also presuming we are pretty good bets come certainties to win the Europa League....................... spell I-R-O-N-Y.

As for not getting it, that you haven't "got" what has been spelled out in plenty of posts that don't just say "we're out of the Champions League, who care's?", doesn't make anyone else arrogant, perhaps it just makes you ignorant

i dont think liverpool will finish in the top 4, and im not 100% sure we will win this trophy either, there is going to be some top teams in this cup.

benfica are no mugs, bayern will prob be in it, maybe inter or juve or even both.

but whichever way you look at it this is far removed from being a mickey mouse trophy, its the next best european version of a cup.
