Europa League 2023/24

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Eagle » Thu Sep 14, 2023 12:14 pm

We'd all like to be in the Champions League, but the Europa League is not without it charms and I'm really looking forward to it. A chance for our travelling fans to take in some interesting trips, a potential final in Dublin, an opportunity to blood some youngsters in the group stages, a route into next years Champions League, and a chance for Jurgen to complete the set!

Here are our group stage fixtures.

EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP STAGE FIXTURES

Thursday September 21 – LASK (A) – 5.45pm

Thursday October 5 – Union SG (H) – 8pm

Thursday October 26 – Toulouse (H) – 8pm

Thursday November 9 – Toulouse (A) – 5.45pm

Thursday November 30 – LASK (H) – 8pm

Thursday December 14 – Union SG (A) – 5.45pm

And this is the squad we've named. The "B list" means we can call on pretty much as many academy players we want but below I've included those most likely to feature.

EUROPA LEAGUE SQUAD

Unlimited number of players on the "B list". Those eligible must be born on or after 1 January 2002 and, since their 15th birthday, have been eligible to play for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years or a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a side from the same association for a period not longer than one year.

Then a maximum of 25 players on "list A"

4 of the 8 home grown spots are reserved for club trained players. We have named 5.

Any of the home grown spots not taken by club trained players are available for association but not club trained players. The only one we have named is Bobby Clark.

The remaining 17 spots are for those that don't fall into the above categories. We've named the full 17 and have had to leave out Adrian. Although a UEFA loophole for goalkeepers could still see him feature in the event of long-term injuries to the keepers we've named.

So trips to France, Belgium and Austria for the 1st stage isn't bad in fairness. Should get a good showing of fans for each one.

In the past I couldn't care less about the Europa League when we were in it, but this time I'd like us to win it. Biggest reason is because this is the only competition we've participated in with Klopp that we haven't won, but also because it provides an alternative route to a CL spot. So a lot to play for IMO, and a good opportunity for some youngsters or players who aren't regular starters to get some game time.

We got off lightly with the travel for the group games.

Hopefully some of the young lads get a run out.

Manure and Newcastle both exit European competition so no chance of meeting one of those. Sevilla didn't make it either.

I don't think we fear anyone left in this tbh whereas everyone will fear us!! Good position to be in.

Yeah mate hate to say this and tempt fate but given what you say and the fact the final is in Dublin it almost seems written in the stars that we’ll win it. As we know life is very rarely as simple as that.
