the rumour is Mascherano wants out, and Rafa is struggling to keep him here until next summer. I fear a big bid from Barca in the next transfer window will force us to sell him, because the lad REALLY doesn't want to be here  :(

Ill be fecking gutted if he goes an all,

Liverpool's Javier Mascherano a £23 million target for Juventus
Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano could be on the move in the new year, amid reports that he is unhappy at Anfield, with Italian giants Juventus understood to be readying a £23 million offer.

Losing interest: speculation over Javier Mascherano's future continues with reports linking him with Juventus
According to a report in the Mirror, the Argentine, who possesses an Italian passport, has become disillusioned with the Merseyside club since the summer departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.

Along with his former team mate, Mascherano was the topic of transfer speculation earlier this year with Barcelona eager for him to move to the Nou Camp, but at the time Rafael Benitez said he would not part with any of his big-name players.

At the time, Mascherano's agent claimed his client was keen to move clubs having "grown tired of England", and following his under-par start to the season, Juventus's interest may well prove enough to lure the 25-year-old away.

It is not the first time Juventus have expressed an interest in Mascherano having tried to sign him from West Ham three years ago before he finally settled on his move to Liverpool.

Hasn't been anywhere near his best this season, has been walking round with a face on him because he couldn't move to Barcelona and has showed a lack of respect to the club, fans, team mates and manager with this attitude.

Though 23 million is nowhere near enough for him and hopefully we won't be forced into selling him come the window.

He's been "unhappy" for some time now and it does seem to be reflected in his game.

No point hanging onto a player that doesn't want to be here. However given our midfield situation the best solution for all concerned  is maybe agree a sale asap but with the move to take place in the summer.

Agree the £23 mill is far short of what we could get for him.

If he does end up going to Barcelona, Yaya Toure should be lined up as a direct replacement in some sort of swap deal. Reminds me a lot of Momo Sissoko but with the added bonus of having some sort of footballing ability on top of being a destroyer.

If we can force it up to £25m then my only concern is what Rafa would do with the money, if he got all of it.

Do we really need Mascherano? I know he's a cult hero among many, many who dismiss the suggestion even of selling him, but I'd rather have two up front or at least an attacking midfielder against teams like Stoke, Wigan, Hull, Burnley, Bolton, Wolves, villa, bitters, Sunderland, Blackburn, Birmingham, West Ham and Portsmouth. Or put another way, I'd not start with Mascherano in about 10+ away games, probably maybe 16 home games and about 1/3 to 1/2 of our European games. In fact I'd suggest Europe is where he might prove more valuable and I couldn't give a toss about Europe. We're leaking goals from set pieces, with all the best will in the world Mascherano isn't going to influence that. We can't afford to have a Lucas-Mascherano pairing in the middle, I reckon Lucas-Gerrard might work, but if you think about it our only realy goal threats on the park are Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt and Benayoun and the creativity stems from those plus maybe Johnson and Aurelio when he plays (and perhaps Agger if ever fit)

LIVERPOOL GOALS 09/10 (24)

Torres : 8 in 10
Kuyt : 4 in 10
Benayoun : 3 in 10 (all vs Burnley)
Gerrard : 3 in 11
N'Gog : 2 in 3
Babel : 2 in 8 (both as sub in 6-1 vs Hull)
Johnson : 2 in 11 (2 in first 4)

Is that good or bad? Lots of goals but all of Benayoun's came in one game, both Babel's came as sub in a thumping and Johnson's early scoring form has dried up.

And Premiership results by league position

01. Chelsea (A) L0-2
03. Tottenham (A) L1-2
07. A Villa (H) L1-3
09. Burnley (H) W4-0
11. Stoke (H) W4-0
13. Bolton (A) W3-2
18. Hull (H) W6-1
19. West Ham (A) W3-2

Lost to all three currently in the top three, all with Mascherano in the side. Highest placed team we've beaten away is Bolton in 13th and only just. I don't expect Burnley to be that high flying much longer, or Stoke, so that may well look even worse in a few weeks. Burnley have won all four at home, lost all four away. Stoke are in a slightly false position as they are on nine points and a win for Blackburn, Fulham and Bolton in their game in hand (each) would take them above Stoke - or just a draw in Bolton's case.

And before we all get too excited about the lack of draws, it is much the case across the Premiership which could well make this season's title winning points tally higher (or lower) than normal. Honestly the league looks weak with Stoke and Hull staying up last season at the expense of Boro and the barcodes. Are Burnley, Stoke, Hull, Brum, Wolves, Pompey (current state), Wigan, Bolton, and Blackburn terribly good sides? Or West Ham and one or two others for that matter?

I think are whole south american unit should be reshuffled - Mash ,Lucas ,Aureillio should be released ,keeping only Insua as the representative of this continent.

Brazil and Argentina are best known for skillfull attacking players ,why would Rafa go and pick defensive minded players is just a big mystory to me....

Why the crazy valuation for Mascha if Alonso went for £30m? Sorry I don't get it. Mascha is a great spoiler and half the time he isn't really needed against poorer opposition. Creates absolutely nothing, never scores and just occasionally completely fks up and the likes of Chelsea score!
