Benayoun or riera?

Benayoun's stats from last season:

League/CL starts - 24 (21 league/3 CL)
Goals – 9
Assists – 6

Total: 15 goals scored/created in 24 games.

If that doesn't convince you that the guy deserves to be in the team then nothing will.

tbh, id play him down the right with Riera down the left... With Johnson at RB we can afford to have him drifting inside when we're on the ball... in terms of goals and assists i think he can offer more than Kuyt playing that role.. would also help in the games against sides that park the bus....

With Alonso out of the side, we'll need people who can carry the ball upfield and Benayoun offers that, more than Kuyt does... Defensively hes not as good as Kuyt in terms of pressing opposition fullbacks but he does his share of tracking back so that isnt that big an issue.. Only concern to me would be his consistency... He had a great end to last season but he was pretty frustrating early on in the season.. good player, and hope he keeps the good displays and impressive stats coming...

Yossi has to prove the sort of form he showed end of season over a consistent number of games .

I agree with that Beny derserves a run and a run in an attacking formation, it seemed with the team we put out sunday we went for a draw, even 'Arry' sed he couldn't believe how easy they turned us over and how right he was.
Is Riera injured I've missed that if it's been put out there somewhere?

No mate - disagree with you there.

Babel fails to produce in over 90% of the times he plays, there is no way he should start ahead of Benayoun.
Even with international performances taken into account.

You mean from now on? Or in pre-season?

Is this to get rid of Kuyt?  :D

What about this?

Kuyt will never get dropped.
If he totally fails as a rw this season Rafa
will make him into a rb, cm or even goalie just so his favourite can play....

Look its glaringly fecking obvious, pull Stevie back into midfield together with Mascha and play Benni in Stevie's role, bingo bongo we win the majority of games, simple,  but will rafa see it that way. I'd then play Diggler and Riera on the wings.

BTW Benni doesn't need to prove a thing to me, he is by far the better player compared with Babel and Lucas, why Rafa doesn't see this is a mystery that only he can answer.

To me he has proved enough, just don't see this team going without him in the current situation we are in. One of our best players in this calendar year.

I actually think Benayoun works best as an impact sub, however he should still start.

I think Benayoun has already done enough to deserve a starting place but maybe he still needs to convince Rafa that he is more than just an impact sub.

was talking about the long term...

For now with Aquilani out of the side, i'd go with the formation you put up for about a million different reasons (check the 'pull gerrard back to cm' thread...

and YES, if Kuyt fails to produce the goals and assists i dont see why he HAS to be in the side... surely he can do with a break if Benny and Riera are producing the goods and he isnt...
