Unfortunately that does appear to be what it has become over the last few years.
Just a way of making a few bob every now and then, more hoping that a player will make the step up.

I genuinely believe that some of the players we lt go while not good enough to be regulars, they are good enough to be squad players.

We keep bringing in the likes of Dossena, Lucas Voronin Degen etc etc etc on high wages and shipping out kids who are bound to be on next to nothing that imo could come in when required and do just as good a job.

Do me a favour gybs dont jump on this...cos i have been through this with you before.

Shame he has gone as he looked very talented on either foot - certainly looked more talented and better than El Zhar . Hopefully there is some sort of buy back option .

We want to be the best, unfortunately that means we can only field the best players and while some of the players coming through are good and could play at the top level, they're not the very best and big four material.

I'd love to see players come through the ranks and make names for themselves like Owen, Fowler, Gerrard and Carragher. But the fact is that we can buy better players and so they have a tough task. How many of the top players at the big four have come through the ranks?

Liverpool - Carra, Gerrard
Chelsea - Terry
Man Utd* - Scholes, Giggs
Arsenal - *coughs*

*I exclude Brown etc as not good enough, Neville is not a top player, at least any more if he ever truly was. They sell off players just like we do, sign them cheap, sell them dear. But then we had Warnock who could have been good enough, especially given our LB problems, but was sold for less than he was worth. Then I have a problem with our policies, it is one thing when our signings are better and to further the player's career they are sold with "no future" at Anfield, but when a player is as good as the players blocking his first XI appearances then it is a disgrace. But seriously how many of our kids are better than Reina, Carra, Agger, Mascherano, Alonso, Kuyt, Gerrard, Benayoun etc ?? ?? ??

They may be late developers, but to continue developing they need first XI action but won't get it here so move on.

I saw him play a few times at St.Mary's for the Saints and he never really did enough for me, he had some nice touches and was a bit of a livewire but didn't look good enough to make the grade at the top level.

why does spearing deserve a chance ahead of lucas?? really it baffles me how blinded some right wing people are

if spearing played as well as lucas did against athletico and scored you lot would be wan.king over him

How is Hammill better them El Zhar? hes a morroccon international & i seem to remebr early on in the season him always replacing Kuyt (before he hit form) & changing the pace of games in our favour & people were calling for him to start games

I dont understand why people slag the cademy because hardly anyone gets through to the first team.
The Academy isnt a lab where we make world class players its thier to try & homne the skills of youngsters who may have a chance of making it. If the local lads arent good enough its not the academys fault. How the people find that so hard to understand??

If Hammill was good enough he would of been signed up by a hull city or a stoke but he isnt yet you think hes good enough to play for us!

Look you cant have it both ways if you want us to be the best we need the best players if the likes of Hammill Hobbs Anderson Threfall were in the team now wed be fighting for relegation & would you be happy then??

Jesus come on think about it for a second

its certainly partially the academies fault that they haven't produced any top level talent. We have the money for a massive scouting system, located in an area with plenty of youngsters playing football, and can afford the best coaches/facilities for each age level. Certainly genetics play a certain part in limiting how great a player could possibly become, but proper training plays a very important part in seeing kids maximize their potential.  Had we trained some of these youngsters differently/better form the age of 9, 10, 11 through 18, 19 then maybe we would have more coming through. This is why Rafa has shook up the set up and brought in a bunch of Barca coaches who seem to have a pretty good idea on training and developing youngsters into all-around talented and technically sound/brilliant footballers

Sorry but I completely disagree with you, the academy SHOULD be a lab for producing top class players, like how the original Ajax academy was. If it isn't that then what the feck is the point of it?? Of course not all players are going to make it but we have had zero players since Carragher and Gerrard and that is just wrong. Spearing given a good run of games might be every bit as good as Lucas, how will we know unless he gets a chance.

The players have to show they are way above their peers at there current level before being given a chance - they also have to show during training that they have the ability and the application to be able to suceed and have to show that they can replace players - if they cant do any of the above then they dont get a chance and get shipped off .
