Evra, Cole, Clichy and Sagna play important role sin helping our rivals break down the smaller teams who sit in front of the penalty box and try to keep it tight. Our full-backs don't really do it. That's why we've just addressed the position. Whether thr price is right or wrong.

Further news on Glen Johnson's proposed switch comes from leading bookmakers Sky Bet, who have suspended betting on the Portsmouth full-back's anticipated move to Liverpool. The England defender was 11/10 in the betting to make the switch to Anfield this morning but a glut of money following speculation that a deal was close saw his price drop before the market was finally withdrawn.

Rafa can never win :D , its difficult to please everyone . I think glen will do a capable job , so what if its 18 million , he's english and this season the transfer market is so inflated . Chelsea spent 16 million on boswinga and none of their fans said anything , manure paid 30 illion for veron and he was sh!te , sometimes you have to pay big money to get sucess , its time we change our mentality , we one rafa to pay to buy quality and in the end when he does we slate him off for paying too much , ffs get a grip and get behind the lad and give him a chance to prove himself .

I'd be fairly happy with this lad playing wide right in a 4-4-2 as well, not every week but he could certainly step in and do a job there if needed.

1. the oh so injury prone Robben played 42 fckin games last season.... i;d take an injury prone world class player who plays 42 games a season...
2. for 18mill we would have gotten a very good attacking player... the likes of Sneijder, Mancini, DiMaria, Joaquin, Maxi Rodriques, Arshavin?, Hleb, Ben Arfa, Cazorla, Mutu, Capel, Navas, L.Fabiano...etc
now add 10mill to that and you're talking the likes of Silva, Teves, Etoo and so on... funny how 18mill is nothing to some... yea whatever !

3. Evra, cole, clichy and Sagna... how much were they bought for ? where they all big players when bought by their current clubs ? name a fullback in world transfers history who cost similar or more money and was of similar quality to glen johnson ? the likes of Zambrotta, Srna, Rafinha, Sagna, Lahm Miguel... is Johnson better than any of the above ? would/did any of them cost that much ?

Dawson i get ur point about committing bodies upfront... but i'd rather we have someone who can actually provide in attacking terms consistently rather than a fullback who still has much to prove in terms of providing in the final third consistently... He'll have a good game every now and then, but he isnt world class and his primary duty isnt coming up with assists... for that we need players further up to step up, which is why IMO we should have focused our efforts in that department (first).

17 mil? 3rd highest club record paid for a player?
too expensive man. i rather we give our youngster a shot at the RB slot.
Glenn Johnson doesnt look like someone who can help us win games.

A lot of people on here are forgetting the money where getting for selling our small fry such as Sebastian Leto to Olympiakos for £7M and other young players. In all Liverpool aren't actually losing anything buying Glen Johnson for £18M. He's a good player and will link nicely with the wingers.

certain 'fans' need to look at themselves...

Johnson is a good player, we wont pay it all in one go... and he'll add to the team...

Let's just for once not be whining b!tches who sound more like Chelsea fans than real fans

Not exactly, Portsmouth still owe us about 5-6m for the sale of Crouch plus Dossena will be out for about 7m plus Arbeloa might be gone for about 7m to real so basically we wont spend a penny for Johnson who is a quality full back and who will be more attacking than kuyt it's just that Kuyt's work rate will let Jonson do this.

Some good points on the fullback front and it's hard to disagree, it's a lot of money, I liked the Russian RB Anyokov (or whatever his name is) and i'm sure he would have been available on the cheap cheap.

As for the middies, Sneider, Ben Arfa and Mancini are all decent shouts, the rest of them read a bit like a champ manager scout search and i must admit i haven't seen enough of them to have an opinion. I don't think Hleb would come (or be sold), I haven't seen anything of Navas, Capel, Cazorla, Di Maria or Fabiano (assuming you have?) and as for Arshavin (don't get me started!) I do like Silva.

Not sure E'to is an option, I'm not sure he'd come and play second fiddle to Torres, Tevez would have been nice but even if he wanted to come i don't think we would , could or should match the wage offer he gets from City.
