I'm alright thanks guys I've still been looking on the forum for news and that I just haven't really had the time to really get involved so I thought I'd just observe for a year or two! I went into the RAF Regiment a couple of years ago but decided I didn't like it so here I am back in the wonderful world of office bound work!

Nice to know I'm missed.

On important matters though I would be pleased to get Johnson as long as the fee doesn't impede on us getting a Attacking midfielder/forward

Taking the price aside for the moment, i believe he will be a good player for us. He's got good pace, he's very direct, has a few tricks in his locker, his crossing is pretty good and he's a quite a big lad as well. I'm not 100% convinced of his defending ability (I don't think he's rubbish at defending as a good few have put it, just a bit suspect), particularly in the big European away games but i'd be looking to play Arby in those fixtures anyway. But the truth is he won't have to do a lot of defending in home games agaisnt all but the top few sides so he could well be a difference maker.

Coming back to the price, when you compare it to Chelsea's purchase of Bosingwa for a similar fee last year I can remember saying to a few lads that the difference between them and us is that they can afford to pay that sort of money for a full-back. And here we are! I'd say that Johnson and Bosingwa are very comparable in terms of ability so the deal actually matches up quite well when you compare them. The problem posters have (including myself) is that this kid was there for the taking for the last two years, he could have been had at a bargain price and that is what will stick in people's minds. It looks like Chelsea weren't willing to go to such a high fee for the lad (particularly when they sold for just £4mill two years ago) so i'm guessing he could have been had for £12-14 million were it not for City sniffing around. Unfortunately they are having the same effect on transfers that we saw at Chelsea when Abramovich took over and i'm guessing they have probably shown interest in a few players out there just to get the price up to make things difficult for their rivals.

Off topic I know but that caption is wrong. That kit was the 98 kit, not from 2002.

If people want to moan let them moan but I think this is potentially one of our most important signings this summer and I think he is a fantastic player.

With the exception of Sagna id say he is the best in the country and im sure under Rafa and playing with better players around him he will excel beyond that.

disgraceful buy, average player , stupid money for a full back, haven't been this annoyed since we bought Keane for stupid money.

I'd say that position is pretty solid now and will be for years to come, we have three excellent centre backs, and two good left backs in Insua and Aurelio. Now we must focus on our attacking issues, Silva time :D
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Did we lose the league because of a full back - no we didn't so why are we wasting £18m on a bloody full back.

He isn't even that good, overpriced, flavour of the month, we could have bought him for about £6m a year ago.

Bloody crappy piece of sh!t business.

We need wingers, a creative midfielder, a second goalscorer (unless SG plays just off the front) but a FULL BACK FOR £18M.

WHO SIGNED THAT BLOODY CHEQUE

You cant have it both ways mate. Do you want bargain basement unknown or someone established and homegrown? He would have cost a lot anyway due to being English but Arby wanting to leave left Rafa with no choice as there was no other obvious alternative.

If Rafa had gone for an unknown cheaper option fine. If he worked out good, if he didn't it would come down on Rafa as he has sole control of transfers now so he has to make sure he is getting good players.

No but you could probably blame Arbys lazy playing at times for conceding goals and posession.
