Erm...

Becasue

1) He doesn't get on with Mourinho

and

2) Because he wants to leave.

I think the answer to the dilemma is to get a better/different version of Kuyt.  In the sense that they will mostly play out wide on the right as a change of pace player to Kuyt, but then is also capable of leading the line or at least playing up front in a 4-4-2 with Kuyt or N'gog. I have been touting Lavezzi for someone who I think could do this. Also maybe Giusepe Rossi or Pandev. I know he is going back to his old club and that a lot of people don't rate him, but this kind of role is very well suited to Podolski, who would be comfortable playing in the Riera role as well as up front, which is rare.

Or someone willing to play when Torres is hurt or when we are 3-0 up. Or play with Torres in a 4-4-2 when Gerrard is out. This is hard to tell who would take such a role. You would think not another world class player, but you would also think we could find someone better than N'Gog (not to have a go at him, I am still holding out for the future).  Maybe it could be someone like Alvaro Negredo who looks better everytime I watch him.  I have read a lot about people being interested in Fernando Llorente, because he is big and in good form and would give us something that we lost when crouch left.  Both of these Spanish options are still fairly young too. I'll throw out the names of Vicinic, Cavenaghi, and Ibisevic.

I think Rafa should just make a list of like 25 of these types of players and call their agents in order of best to worst until one of them is up for being Torres' apprentice in helping Liverpool to win the title.

just as likely that Mourinho will leave, and that article was from December. Balotelli has played a lot more since then, and he would probably have the same kind of problems at Liverpool anyway.

A player I believe that would fall in the , Big, Young, Cheap category to fill in as a target man down the road is Jozy Altidore.  He's very raw, not as raw as N'gog, would obviously not expect to play for a couple of years.  But he's got nice finishing skills and bags of potential.  Obviously not a short term fix by any stretch, but I'd say three years down the road people here will be saying "we should have looked into signing him".

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

With rumors that Ribery could move to Utd in the summer I would have thought it even less likley Bayern would allow Bastian to go as well. Toni Kroos is worth a look in but he will probably come in as no 2 for if/when Ribery leaves.

Kroos is in a 2 year loan deal to Leverkusen I believe.

If Ribery leaves, and if Monchengladbach goes down (or even if they don't) I would expect Bayern to go in for Marko Marin, a player I wouldn't mind us looking at especially since we have a good relationship with that club or at least their fans.

strange case. Couldn't get a game at Villareal, went on loan to Xerez in the Segunda where he cannot get a game either despite scoring 4 in 2 games for the United States in World Cup Qualifying.

I like the idea of having Nikola Zigic at the club. He's had a rought time in Spain, but I think with better players around him, he could have the same impact as John Carew has had ar Aston Villa. He offers the perfect blend for Torres, the quality this lad possess will accompany Torres. He's worth a punt at £7m at least.

Yes, Zigic is one of the tallest footballers in the world at 6'8.

And is about a day and a half slower than Crouch.  Would be interesting on set pieces though.

At least he can head a football with finesse and prowess, Crouch almost broke his neck everytime he went to head a football.

Edit: He is 28, still has several years left in him yet!
