fair play to benitez in all honesty. if he's putting out a slightly weaker team than he did for the league match then he's sticking to his word of focusing on the premiership - and he's also failing to give everton any credit or importance. i think there's a bit of reverse pyschology going on there. whether it'll win us the game or not is another thing but its interesting that he's playing down the importance of beating them.

remember that this is probably more of a must win game for them than the league game. they won't be so happy to sit back and play for a draw. they'll have to come out and attack us which may leave a bit more room for lucas and masch to work in. i'm sure it'll be a very different game to the one on monday.

Talking of fringe teams, anyone else think the Carling Cup should be scrapped? If you consider the semi-finalists were two Championship sides and two Premiership sides, the minute the respective Premiership sides get to the final they are almost stating they won't put out full strength sides and putting the emphasis/priority very much on the league.

Not a good advert for a competition, neither finalist cares enough about winning it to commit to their strongest side! So finishing 17th in England is more important than winning a trophy, even though spudz would bounce straight back up and it's not as if this season is their first outside the top four. The FA Cup isn't far behind in terms of marginalisation, they should poll the (Premiership and) league clubs and ask, if they were made optional, which cups they would enter - or simply ask them whether they'd rather go up/stay up or win the competition (or have bigger fish to fry in terms of the big four)

Losing to the bitters would be tough to take, not sure it will make a fat lot of difference to our disappointing recent run of form/results. Isn't this simply a continuation of the rotation Rafa loves? How often do we field the same XI players two games in a row? Is it any wonder our form is all over the shop when we're changing personnel, formation etc so much

full team tonight then full team for the upcoming league game. You cant tell me so called professional sportsmen cant play 2x 90 min matches in a week?

If we lose to Everton, it will destroy all morale the team has, and will most likely end our season. We have to win this one.
