Thoughts everyone
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

i would like any team that has no ex Liverpool players in it.

Cheltenham Town or Doncaster Rovers would be good, i like to see small clubs get their day.

oh  and no teams that start with a B ......pls

Wishful thinking, I can't say that shower beating the mancs unless the mancs play a 2nd XI, miss lots of chances and Southampton manage a goal.

The mancs are on a lucky run at the moment, three 1-0 wins in a row in all competitions, FOUR 1-0 wins and two 0-0 draws in their last six Premiership games.

I think we're going to get a Premiership side as I said elsewhere, we rarely have easy rides while Pompey played FIVE Championship sides and just Man Utd from the Premiership in their FA Cup winning campaign

Portsmouth FA Cup 2008

FINAL : W1-0 vs Cardiff City
SF : W1-0 vs West Brom
QF : W1-0 vs MAN UTD
R5 : W1-0 vs Preston NE
R4 : W2-1 vs Plymouth
R3 : W1-0 vs Ipswich Town

Liverpool FA Cup 2006

FINAL : D3-3 vs WEST HAM (won on penalties)
SF : W2-1 vs CHELSEA
QF : W7-0 vs BIRMINGHAM
R5 : W1-0 vs MAN UTD
R4 : W2-1 vs PORTSMOUTH
R3 : W5-3 vs Luton Town

Sides in the Premiership in CAPS - Birmingham were relegated in 05/06 season, one place above them was Portsmouth. As for the non-Premiership sides played :-

Last Top Flight Season

Plymouth n/a
Cardiff City 1961/62
Preston NE 1960/61
Luton Town 1991/92
Ipswich Town 2001/02

So one of the sides Pompey played has never seen top flight football and two haven't played in the top flight since the early sixties. Mancs are just as lucky with their draws, Chelsea too although they cocked up bigtime in not beating Southend - another team never having been in the top flight.

I assume those wanting an 'easy tie' are not those wanting us to write off the FA Cup and concentrate on the league.

Rafa's Record Against The 'B' Sides

Bolton P10 W7 D1 L2
Blackburn P9 W4 D4 L1

Birmingham* P8 W2 D4 L2
Barnsley P1 W0 D0 L1
Burnley P1 W0 D0 L1

Benfica P2 W0 D0 L2
Barcelona P2 W1 D0 L1
Besiktas P2 W1 D0 L1
Betis P2 W1 D1 L0
Bordeaux P2 W2 D0 L0
Bayer Leverkeusen P2 W2 D0 L0

*both wins ironically in cups

Domestic B-Sides : P29 W13 D9 L7 (Won 44.83%)
Domestic Others : P181 W103 D40 L38 (Won 56.91%)

All B-Sides : P41 W20 D10 L11 (Won 48.78%)
All Others : P229 W134 D49 L46 (Won 58.52%)

So your fear of Bs is not entirely irrational, although we did beat Brum on the way to the FA Cup, Bayer Leverkeusen on the way to the Champions League and Bordeaux and Barcelona on the way to the final in 06/07. We also beat Besiktas 8-0 so Bs aren't all bad, maybe no Championship side Bs ending in "ley".

I just want to avoid any of the top sides. Arsenal played (and lost to)  the mancs last season and never recovered, I don't want anything similar to upset us.
