Again it appears that Rafa has to sell before he can buy, and if we are to strengthen in January it will have to be at the expense of outgoing players. Added to this is the problem over contracts for some of our players that we apparently can't afford to renew at the moment. (Kuyt and Agger are down to their final 18 months at Christmas, as is Rafa himself.)
I think Pennant, Degen, Dossena, Benayoun, Voronin (out on loan, but a sale would be better) maybe even Babel could all be available for the right price, with maybe a few of the reserves made available as well.
Who would you be willing to sacrifice (or maybe glad to see the back of ) in order to strengthen, or would it be better to wait till the summer and not disrupt the squad?

and want to sell them, then other clubs are hardly likely to be queuing up to throw money our way for them. Again Voronin gets mentioned although in truth he hasn't been given much of a chance. Toss up for me between Voronin and Keane as to who has been the better signing, the fee would make Voronin the clear winner and as we're short of goals I'd suggest he might be worth recalling not selling. If people think we can sell (permutations including) Degen, Dossena, Voronin, Pennant, Lucas and Babel and rake in a fortune then they're dreaming. I'm not sure Stoke and Sunderland are rich enough to buy up all our unwanted players, as much as they might offer for them. A lot of those are either regulars or getting enough games that we'd have to replace them with better quality and are unlikely to be improving on them with less money than we'd get for them.
