think that what we have problem with is really his attitude, his willingness to give it all and to try and improve himself
Not words i can honestly say i've seen on this post, it's more about his performance.
I understand what you're saying here but would you be motivated if your manager told you if you didn't leave you'd be in the reserves. Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence eh?
as far as im concerned hes impressed when he was played so far this season...
hes impressed in patches when he was played last season till he got injured...
hes our best option down the right atm and until we go out and buy a joaquin or Navas or Maxi who would actually improve us down that side id play Pennant there week in week out... hope Rafa plays him in the next few games with Kuyt upfront and if he does a job then that should be the right midfield spot sorted out till we get a new face... not many out there who are better realistic options...and for the record... hes not half as bad as many of you make him out to be... pretty laughable seeing as to some of the people slating his game actually think kuyt is a good player... or let me rephrase that ... oh fck it maybe i shouldnt..
Somebody agrees, and is on my side of the debate
"I certainly wouldn't say I'm the best manager in the business, but I'm in the top one."

GYBS wtf are you talking about... you argue like a 5year old and no disrespect intended... pennant started 2 games and has 2 assists to his name this season.. our best performer in one game and very impressive by almost everyones admittance against wigan... kind of hard for you to take that away from him.. im not saying kuyt hasnt scored the goals you ssay he has...that would just be plain stupid.. just as you coming out telling me pennant was poor in the two games hes played would be...

not words you saw in this thread because this thread is very recently created... but those are the words that describe his longstanding problems the best: Wenger saw the talent in him... didn't become anything under Wenger, who is famous for getting the best out of young talented players as you know... and then he moved to a mid table club with not much expectations where he shined... so Rafa gave him a chance to prove himself again at a big club... he shined briefly... but then down he goes again...
ppl have almost forgotten about pennant already... almost given up... and if torres and babel didn't get injured and if keane's form wasn't as bad, I bet he wouldn't have made it to the lineup for the wigan game either... and most of the fans aren't even complaining... even the kuyt bashers think that kuyt is doing better than pennant on the right...
when did benitez actually say that?

Fact ? as in the fact that Pennant is a better winger than kuyt is ? its not a fact but then again i never said it was... just my opinion...
Who claimed Kuyt was a winger?
Kuyt is a better option at right midfield than Pennant is at right wing.......
Pennant is not good enough
This is a fact and not an opinion
THERE'S A GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL TOMORROW SHINING AT THE END OF EVERY DAY.
THERE'S A GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL TOMORROW AND TOMORROW IS JUST A DREAM AWAY.

ok lets just try to sort this out ...
basically what i think this team lacks pathetically is movement off the ball.. besides gerrard and torres we dont have any player who pass the ball and look to move and take up better positions higher up to recieve the ball.. wingers or midfielders or strikers... they all fail to do that consistently... u look at manutd or chelsea or arsenal and u can see the difference.. clear as day...
Pennant does that alot.. kuyt doesnt.. that provides alot of space for our central players.. plenty of option to pick out and plenty of time to pick out the better pass rather than just passing it across and behind...
another thing that pennant provides is directness... he takes the ball from our pitch and runs at players and spaces taking us higher up the pitch faster than any of our other players can.. gerrard does that sometimes but with him playing deeper in the middle now my guess is that the wingers are going to have to step up and do it more often... kuyt cant do it to save his life since he has no pace and more importantly no ability to do so...
Pennant crosses better than kuyt...he dribbles better than kuyt... and more importantly ...all in all is the better player...
again... hes played 2 games this season and hes shined in both... if he plays like sht for the next 3 games or so (if hes given the chance by Rafa which i feel has to be done) ill be the first to come and say i was wrong and that hes not the player we need... but in a 4-4-2 with the player we have at hand i really think that pennant can be a good player and outlet for us in that position given his game and style of play...

when are we signing this pennant your talking about cause its certainly not the pennant i have seen during his time at liverpool . And did you watch the whole of the game on sat ? Cause if you did you must of watched a different one to me and my mates cause pennant didnt shine . He did ok in second half but he didnt shine . Highlights on motd gave a very false impression off pennant .

im talking about pennant im not talking about kuyt . This thread is about pennant . And on sat he certainly didnt do what you suggest . He maybe capable of it but he never does it and definatly not on a consistent basis when he has played in the past . For a period of about three months leading up to the 07 cl final he was playing well and looking threatening but apart from then he has been mainly not good enough .

I'd agree Pennant can (playing well) use his pace to provide a good outlet on the right which can create space for other players to get forward however you would have to question his end product? Clearly Rafa does or he wouldn't play Kuyt out of position as cover on the right. The argument shouldn't be on who is the better player but who better strengthens the team as a whole.
That said I'd love to see him given a solid run of games and prove everyone wrong, personally I feel we still lack a quality right midfielder a problem which hopefully gets addressed in the January transfer window.
