I find that funny as the same newspapers were stating last year that Owen was over-rated, off form and injury prone, and was one dimensional!
I was and am a big fan of Michael Owen and it would have been nice if he had stayed, but the fact of the matter is that both he and Liverpool were getting stale, and a change is good for both parties. With Owen's pace the temptation was always there to hit fast early balls to him, but that had become tired and opposition teams were learning to cope with Owen.
Liverpool have always sold top players and prospered, we survived the sales of Keegan, Souness, Rush and Fowler, and as the old saying goes, when one door closes another opens.
The focus is now on Cisse and whether he can use Liverpool to become a world class player now that Owen is gone, and the (very) early indications show that he can.
good post jbg.
i agree that our style of play had become entirely predictable and based around michael owen's pace on the counter attack. ok it worked for a couple of seasons but once defences sussed it out we had no plan b.
in my opinion, cisse has all the attributes to be as good as michael owen if not better.
