One things for sure, Rafa doesnt exactly get a move on does he?

Once again in the modern game its down to the CEO to conclude transfers not the manager, the last top flight manager to be able to handle money was David O'leary, it is now fully the domain of the CEO. I dare say Rafa is just as p!ssed off with this situation as we are, why do you thing they dont get on, because Parry cant deliver his targets. From what i understand Rafa gets to be more involved when dealing with spanish clubs, so its no supprise those deals seem to be done over night.

Since you've stirred me up and I've got nobody else to argue with, I noticed this one too. Are we to assume that rafa just says "buy Barry" and Parry goes off and does the business.

He then comes back and says, "got him boss, 25 million" and Rafa has no say in how much we bid? Rafa goes "feck me i thought he was only worth ten".

Is it actually Parry we should be congratulating for buying Torres for what now looks like a bargain price, ditto Crouch, Sissoko and Alonso? Or by "does the negotiating" do you mean he goes in the room and actually signs the forms?

My suspicion is that Rafa is actually given a budget, and is then told that any extra revenue will have to raised in transfer sales. From there he wheels and deals, tries to buy a wee bit cheaper, sell a wee bit dearer and pay a slighly smaller salary and signing on fee. There will be a budget for overall player wages per financial year, and no doubt the accountant keeps him up to speed as to how much he has saved by knocking for instance Crouch off the wage bill. He will no doubt then meet with the Chief Executive and then board will meet periodically to discuss where we are. They'll do swerves where they don't pay up front for a player but in installments, calculated to the nth degree to take into account potential interest rate fluctuations.

I'm sure it's all quite complicated once you go into it.

Ive explained it more or less how Barry Silkman explained how deals are done in the modern game, its up to Parry to work within Rafa's budget and conclude transfers, when it comes to spain Rafa no dout has a bigger part to play but when it comes to finishing the deal and sorting personal terms its down to the CEO. How do you think managerless chelsea managed to bring in Bosingwa (sp?). Im only passing on info ive learned so argue with your self mate, take it leave it i couldnt care less.

If he did play in the Intertoto Cup there is a small chane this could make him cup tied for the uefa cup (if we ended up in it).
this happend to a player 3 years ago and was only overuled after the first game of the uefa cup was over.

I am not sure about this but it what was said on Radio 5 late last night.

It could be true but i doubt barry will play , MON knows if this rule does exist and he's cup tied his value might go down .

They're in the UEFA Cup/Intertotalcrap. Any club that can afford Barny would be a Champions League side, I would guess being different competitions you can't be cup tied in the Champions League if you played in the UEFA Cup and vice versa. Certainly would make it interesting for clubs who drop out of the Champions League into the UEFA Cup............................. ???

I doubt we'd go out at the qualifying stage or the group stage, if we did would it matter that much if Barny were cup tied? I doubt it would stop Rafa buying him, I hope something does

Why?? Explain why you dont want Gareth Barry at LFC without using stats from another site for once?

Well first of all I don't have to answer to you, or "play by your rules". Secondly the stats aren't from another site, shows how clueless you are.

I don't want Barny because he's not (markedly) better than Alsono, he's not young and he's expensive. But then if you'd read or understood my previous posts on the subject you'd know that already. I long since guessed you were a bit of a prat, thanks for confirming

EDIT : BTW is the "prize" you, a prize plonker? If so, no thanks.

No one seems to now how much money we have to spend.

I was under the impression we had to sell Xabi to get Barry and Keane.

NANNY RED wrote:What do you mean if we ended up in it , The Intertoto is a seperate comp from EUFA and Champions league surley.

They have to win that first before they can go into the EUFA.

I thought they were all seperate compertitions

Maybe im wrong

in the intertoto cup, you play a couple of 2 leg knockout rounds then the remaining 6 (not 100% on that) enter the uefa cup with the team progressing the furthest being classed as intertoto winner.

Even if he played in it he could still play for us in the Champions League. They have changed the rules recently around that. Not sure of the specifics.

I noticed Martin O'Neil has been talking to the media twice in the past week re-iterating the fact that they are waiting on Liverpool to come back. Its not the same story twice, it was two seperate chats with the media where he mentioned it twice. It seems to me that Martin O'Neil is getting a "twitchy bum".

It seems that he is slightly worried now that because of his over-valuation of the player, we might actually just walk away - especially with it now half certain that Xabi will be with us next year. £18m for a 27 year old with 2 years left on his contract is ludidcous. He was just doing what we would expect and demand of Rafa and he played his hand very well at the start.

However it now looks like he may of OVERPLAYED his hand, and with Rafa cooling off and Barry cast aside, its now seems we have the upper hand and I would suggest his recent comments this week shows he wants the deal to be put to bed soon as possible. He knows the longer it goes on the worse its going to be for Aston Villa - and Rafa knows this too.

Rafa's playing O'Neil just as well as O'Neil played Rafa, but now we do have the upper hand.

Offer them 8 million on the 31st of August. Or 5 in january.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Yep surely its only a matter of time before O'neill gets desperate and we get this deal done. Hopefully we don't go upto 18mil though
