I went and watched the reserves play at southport yesterday (although a lot of youth players were on display as the main players had flown to training camp)

Hamill ran the show and scored two outstanding goals, lets remember this guy has been on loan to the SPL so he can play against tough players etc, its about time this guy moved up or does anyone know something i dont about why he is being held back, serioulsy he was head and shoulders above eevryone else yesterday

He was head and shoulders above anyone else when he was at Dunfermline too. I know a few of their fans who go to the games and they raved about him. There was some fleeting interest from Celtic and Rangers but nothing concrete.

I'm not sure how successful his loan period was at Southampton last season though, maybe someone could shed some light. The Championship is overall a better standard than the SPL these days and a better indicator of how good the lad is.

I don't really know how his season went last year. Whenever I checked who played for Southampton last year, he was either taken off early in the second half, or was a late substitute, if played at all - to which I interpreted as an unsettled season (certainly not as good as his Dunfermline spell).
I really thought he and Paul Anderson would of been in the first team by now, or at least had a few run outs.

I know young Adams stepdad , the lad had gone off the rails abit (no pun intended) ,last year , he was abit down regarding life with LFC and footy in genral ,but he's got his head together during the summer and he's going to give it a go at Swansea i think on loan . He's defo got the talent and ability to make it at LFC , it's just getting the chance.

Gary Ablett admits fans of reserve football are unlikely to see more wondergoals from Adam Hammill this season as the chase hots up to sign the winger on loan.
The 20-year-old scored a superb double as the second string got pre-season off to a winning start against Southport on Sunday.

However, Ablett doesn't expect to see Hammill feature in many more of the upcoming friendlies.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We were saying on the bench how his first goal was similar to Yossi's the day before, and we know Adam is capable of that. We know he has ability but we're just trying to get him to harness it in the right areas of the field.

"He is a character and the plan for him is to go out on loan again. There is interest from a couple of clubs and with goals like we've seen here you can understand why.

"He's been out at Southampton and Dunfermline, so reserve football isn't what he needs at this stage of his development."

Sunday's 3-1 victory over Blue Square North opposition also saw Dutch striker Jordy Brouwer find the net, with a clean sheet only denied by a late penalty following a foul from Godwin Antwi.

The trip to Haig Avenue marks the start of a pre-season which will see Ablett's boys take on senior – rather than reserve – teams up and down the UK.

The former Reds defender explained: "It was a very good performance and it was a good way for us to start the season. We knew it would be a competitive game, what with their new manager and new players wanting to impress.

"We feel that after the season we had last year the players needed testing in pre-season. Next week we've got Peterborough and Stockport, then Inverness and Hamilton. After that we play Manchester United in the final of the Lancashire Cup."

Those who made the short trip north for Sunday's win got a glimpse of a few new faces including Academy graduates Gary Mackay-Steven and Steven Irwin.

Ablett revealed how both were settling in at Melwood: "They both performed very well today.

"Steven came with us for the final two months of last season and settled in very well. He's an amiable character who always walks around with a smile on his face.

"Gary has only been with us a week and he's a bit quieter but he'll come out of his shell.

"You've seen here that they've both got ability and they'll both fit into the group well. They held their own.

"The more we get them on the training field, the more they'll start to understand the tactical movements we're after."

Also on show were under-18 stars Nathan Eccleston and Alex Kacaniklic, who could soon follow Mackay-Steven and Irwin to Melwood.

"Nathan and Alex are still at the Academy but after their performance today we'll be looking to bring them up in the not too distant future," said Ablett. "The problem is, we already have a lot of players.

"Once we sort ourselves out numbers-wise, they could make the step up."

didn't impress at Southampton, I think it just wasn't a good match

, he's deffo one for the future , maybe a season or 2 more of loans to other clubs than he might start playing first team footie??

I took me nan to the Saints a couple of times last season mate. He was fairly lively on both occasions, plays with a lot of energy, looked quite skillful and likes to run at players BUT from what i saw, and what i've heard from a few Saints fans who know their stuff. He's a decent little player but his final ball is lacking, he's in and out of games and he often beats the first man and then runs into the 2nd. Hard to say from just 2 games but I'd say he's found his level in the championship or maybe lower down in the Prem in the future.

He certainly hasn't made the impression that Guthrie made down here on loan the previous season. They liked Guthrie a lot.

That pretty much sums him up i think. He's got ability, he's a typical young scouse lad who plays with a bit of fire, he works hard but he's got a lot of learning to do.

I'd expect him to spend another season on loan and then be sold on as we have just done with Guthrie.

If he is loaned out again mate then I think that's exactly what will happen.

You have to wonder whether a local lad like him might benefit from staying at Melwood for a season and learning from the likes of Carra and Gerrard at training, maybe getting a few run outs in the Carling Cup/ FA cup or something. Clearly the coaching he gets at LFC is going to be better than at some Championship club. 2 seasons on loan is enough imo, at 20 years of age he needs to be given a chance, if he's loaned out again then it's to put him in the shop window and I can't see him having a future at LFC. That would be a shame.

Personally i would like us 2 have hamill & anderson as 2nd choice on either wing i think thier both excellent players, 1 english, 1 scouse same applys 2 having pacheco & nemeth as back-up strikers 2 torres & say keane

With the new 7 man benth rule id like him & anderson 2 stay we could bring them on in matches that were winning by 2 or more goals with 30 mins 2 go

Anderson is a decent player. Neither are top players. Hence the reason at 20 years old they are nowhere near Liverpool's first team.

Thats true, at 20 year old they need to start in the first team.
