I agree...... 27 million quid worth of risk..... with due respect to AM, he was a big fish in a small pond there..... Unproven at the highest levels of club competition...... This is almost twice our record signing.... I'd rather have Tevez to be honest......

He'll have my support of course and god knows I hope I'm wrong..... but make no mistake about it, through the euphoria of it all, this is a massive risk IMHO.

I'm an Atletico supporter since I was born (now I'm 38) and have been going to the stadium since I was 10, almost 90% of Atletico matches. Torres is the best player we ever had during this time and many, many people is not renewing their seasonal ticket because of the sale of the player. In my case, I am really sad about Fernando's signature for Liverpool. My 2 year-old daughter only nows one player in the world. She says "TOES". Now I will have to explain her why now he plays fully in red. My only chance is to be a new supporter for Liverpool, as many of my friends. Enjoy Fernando Torres. Good luck. Fernando, you'll never walk alone.

what has tevez proved at the highest levels of club competition? he's had ten decent games for west ham.

Check out his acheivements at both club and international level.

Titles

2005 – Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (Corinthians)
2004 – Olympic gold medal (Argentina)
2004 – Pre-Olympics (Argentina)
2004 – Copa Sudamericana (Boca Juniors)
2003 – Intercontinental Cup (Boca Juniors)
2003 – Argentine Apertura (Boca Juniors)
2003 – Copa Libertadores (Boca Juniors)
2003 – South American under-20 Championship (Argentina)

Personal awards

2007 – West Ham United Hammer of the Year
2007 – Hammers News Player of the Year
2005 – Campeonato Brasileiro's Best Player by CBF (Brazilian Soccer Confederation)
2005 – Campeonato Brasileiro's Best Player (Brazilian Placar magazine)
2004 – Olimpia de Oro award for Argentine most important Sportperson of the year (Shared with Basketball player Manu Ginobili) (Clarín newspaper)
2004 – Olympic Golden Boot (8 goals in 6 matches)
2003, 2004 and 2005 – South American Player of the Year (Uruguayan newspaper El País)

Ripped off wikipedia....

Plus he's proven that he can hack it in the premiership.

But this is not a thread about Tevez...... I was merely pointing out that IMO, Torres is a risk and that I preffered Tevez.... That's all.... But to say that he's only had ten decent games for west ham is laughable.

Compare that to what Torres has acheived.

Atlético Madrid
Winner Segunda División: 2001-02
1998 Nike Cup Europe (an under-14 youth cup)

Spain
Winner
2001 Under-16 Algarve Tournament
2001 UEFA European Under-16 Football Championship
2002 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship

Personal Awards
Winner
1998 Top under-14 European player
2001 UEFA European Under-16 Football Championship: Top goalscorer (7 goals in 6 games), Best player
2002 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship: Top goalscorer (4 goals in 4 games), Best player

In the last 4 years, what has Torres acheived as compared to Tevez who has proven to be a success at EVERY club he's ever been at....

I say again, IMO, Torres is a huge gamble by Rafa......

Actually Torres is not bad as you people think. He is a very good player, watched some atletico games on T.V, and I was impressed when he played against Barcelona, he always rips them apart.

Ofcourse 27m is a huge risk, I don't think he is worth 27m, 15m will do, but why complain when we really have the money to buy players?

Because we're liverpool... not Chelsea who can :censored: away cash like it doesn't mean anything...... If an expensive player bombs out and we cannot recover a goodly portion of our outlay, we may go down the way of Leeds.....

We may have the cash, but that doesn't mean that we should just splurge it like theres no tomorrow....

My 2p worth at any rate...

To be honest i'm pleased to see Benitez spending big on one player rather than bying 3 players for the same amount in the hope that one of them does ok. Torres is a very good player and is still young and he is strong enough to make it in the prem.
