Like I said, judge him on the field. Everyone on here should be able to recall who it was who said "Paper teams win paper cups." so don't judge him on his stats because you'll feel like a mug if he nets 20 or more this coming season.

I might feel like a mug 1 second, then happy because that means it's good for Liverpool.

I felt much worse when i had all the confidence of the world on Morientes and the he did a Morientes :D

But your main point is right. We have to judge him in the pitch, not elsewhere! and FWIW he has all my support!! Come on Towers!!

oh no, cue all the Towers puns :D

I know. Some people on here can be a real Piza work!

I agree...... 27 million quid worth of risk..... with due respect to AM, he was a big fish in a small pond there..... Unproven at the highest levels of club competition...... This is almost twice our record signing.... I'd rather have Tevez to be honest......

He'll have my support of course and god knows I hope I'm wrong..... but make no mistake about it, through the euphoria of it all, this is a massive risk IMHO.

I agree completly. It doesn't make sense to shell out the dough for double the club's record signing, and then for people to say well we shouldn't expect much from him in the first year. If your going to spend in that ball park range, spend the extra cash and bring in Tevez, who has proven he can take a team and put it on his back and win games IN THE PREM. Granted it was only over a half a season period, but it was one heck of a 2nd half.  But now that he is here, I hope he scores and sets up loads of goals. I smell an ABBA remake of "Fernando"

Actually, I once saw his girlfriend's top slip off in the wind. Talk about getting a Eiffel! :D

You know of course that in his spare time he runs a recording studio? That's right, Tower Records! :D

Sorry, sorry, My mind's a bit weird due to Insomnia. Too many Steeples nights!

It bears remembering that any deal for Tevez would have (or will) likely drag out for most of the summer.  The player's currently tied up with the Copa America and, thus, is probably not available for negotiations, medicals, etc.  In addition, given the whole grey area over his ownership, it'll be that much more complicated to negotiate a deal for him.

I'm not saying that he's not a fantastic player--because he is--and I'm not saying that timing should be our main consideration when negotiating for a top striker but I just want everyone to remember the impatience being expressed around here about our lack of transfer business when suggesting that going for Tevez would have made more sense than going for Torres.

Well even if Rafa gets this wrong and he's sacked after a dissapointing season, at least we the fans will rest assured that now we have the financial power to compete for the best player, so it's good news anyway.

Many will not be convinced by his signing but I do consider he will be a great asset to the team. He is the type of player Benitez seems to be looking for, a commanding figure who is highly regarded in the teams they played in (Reina, Alonso and Kuyt for instance, as well as Carragher and Gerrard who he has secured their futures with Liverpool). He is looking for players who give 100% everytime they play and, a figure such as Torres who is so highly regarded by his fans in Atletico will only make us a better team IMO.

Fowler's off, mate, and with Garcia gone now, both shirts are vacant.  Maybe Rafa might give us a clue as to what striker's role Torres will fill by reassigning these numbers the old fashioned way! :D

I didn't want to comment on Torres until we'd actually signed him. And now that we have, I just want to allay the fears of all those who reckon he is a massive risk or will flop. In the words Rafa's immortal and favourite line in interviews "I have confidence" that El Nino will bang away goals for fun for us. Remember, this is a player that half the teams in Europe were chasing at one point or another, inlcuding the Mancs and the Chelsea shyte. They obviously valued him and reckoned he'd do the business for them, so why all the doubt and pessimism? When's the last time we signed a massive name that all are envious of us because of it? Be excited. He's too good of a player to let us down.
