anyway the reason he got the headbut on saturday was because he once again squared up to someone but this time he got butted. when i say squaring up i mean he is standing up and pushing players, this is something he hasnt done previously, whether its because he has dropped below mash in the pecking order at the moment or whether its because he is being played in the lesser games while other big names are rested i dont know, or whether its because he is on his way out i dont know, but to me he looks disinterested a lot of the time.

anyway it wont be long before we find out.

just a note, at no point do i say alonso is a bad player before anyone starts saying i am, i am pointing out an attitude only

The attitude you describe shows he does give a 5hit, and wants to win.
How the hell can you blame HIM for getting headbutted? That idiot was pushing players all game, esp off the ball, Xabi was pushed he turned around, so what? thats what all players do, and the cun7 buttted him.
He hasn't played aswell as he can this year, but squaring up and complaining probably shows he has become comfortable in the league.
I wish sometimes the players would show a bit of agression and help out team mates, other teams would have piled in had their team mate been butted.

i agree mate, if that would have happened to that united side of the 90`s the likes of keane, cantona, ince, hughes, bruce, pallister and even schmeichel would still be chasing him around the pitch even now a day later.
they werent just work associates those lot were proper mates and it showed whenever they had to stick together.

The best players fight through these times and their true pedigree shines through. I personally don't think either Alonso or Sissoko will start the CL cup final. Why should he? Based on form both Gerrard and Mascherano are a lot better

I don't think Gerrard and Alonso are competing for a place in the team. Different kind of midfielders, different roles.

As for the "Mascherano a lot better", well, I disagree. It's curious that Mascherano's mistakes that almost cost a goal are overlooked and people keep going on about Alonso's bad performances.  :Oo: For me, both of them are making some mistakes, and both of them are showing what they're capable of.

But of course football wouldn't be as interesting if we all thought the same thing.

Well I think on current form Mascha's looked the better of the two.

I think Sabre you'll stand by Xabi whatever the cause, as he's Spanish and of course played for Real Sociedad.

Fair enough,  IMHO your football posts are clueless.

I've criticised Alonso when he has done badly, from the first season. I even got a "you're being to harsh on the lad" by our poster Ciggy, in his first season.

I like being harsh on any player of my team when he deserves so. Normally I defend the players, I've defended Gonzalez, I've defended Riise, I've defended Pennant and I've done so when they were criticised. Oh, I also defended Rafa before everyone jumped into the wagon after the semifinal.

But you choose to think I'm biased to ALonso. See if I care, my neutral poster man.  :D

The only bias I have is that I defend too much ALL players, not other bias.

It's nothing but my opinion. I think in this forum I learn from a lot of posters that know more football than me (Bigmick, Bad Bob, Dalglish, Scottbot, Ace Ventura, LFC2007, Stu, etc, etc, etc,etc ), and you're not one of them.

Nothing else.  ???  Just as you think I'm biased to Alonso in my posts, I think you write a lot without understanding the game and you echo opinions you read here and there.

But it's nothing else but my opinon. Shall we keep discussing about Alonso?

Thank you.

it hasn't been Xabi's best season, but no way would i want him to leave. He's class and even when he's having an average match its still filled with quality passes and tackles.

I don't think he'll go anywhere unless he was really unhappy.

I'm not here to teach anyone about football mate, thats not what I come on here for, I come on here to discuss football, and a bit of gen chat.

I understand football not that I have to explain that to you, and I have MY own opinions.

My initial comment was nothing more than, an opinion. I think sometimes your bias. Nothing wrong with that.
But you've gotten knarky in return, and like alot of others have said you've started to show your TRUE COLOURS.

I'm 100% confident that Xabi will be staying and that Rafa still rates him very highly.  I remember the whole "body language" debate with Gerrard last season and, to a lesser extent, early this season and it came to nothing so I don't think we can read too much into those things.

Alonsos good, id wanna keep him, but if clubs throw stupid money at us, why not sell him and build in the areas we need to more. if we got money + etoo as an example for him would i take it? Yeah i would.

Bamaga man: Maybe so. But I've got a record here, and I treat with respect to everybody that treat me with respect. This "new" face I'm showing is the one that I show when I receive shíte. And now that I have no longer the constraints of being a mod, I don't plan to measure my opinions.

Back to topic, the body language issue is a useful tool indeed to try to understand what's going on on player's minds (and girls for that matter), but it's a difficult art.

I can remember situations in this forum fearing for Rafa's departure: "You can see in his face, he's going to leave" was something I could read yesteryear, for instance. And here he is... So I wouldn't make too many bets on body language.

I don't know whether the other posters here will agree or not, but I think he hasn't reached his peak as a player, and I WISH he'll reach his peak in Liverpool Football CLub, and no other big club.

I think the lad has grown as a player. Ironically, I think the praised Alonso of 2 years ago, was a WORSE player than the one he is now. In England he has improved his tackling, and his positioning, and has kept the natural abilities he already had.

So I'd like to read opinions about that, has he reached his peak? or is he an evolving player?

Xabi is a great player, fantastic when hes on his game. when hes not tho...which isnt very often but...

of course id like to keep him, but like ive said, if someone offered silly money whilst we got steve momo and masher... id take silly money. it would have to be silly money tho, and only if xabi 100% wanted to go.

thing with Alonso is that he has a good footballing brain. And i think that learning to be more intelligent about the game is a huge factor in developing as a player...
think about it, your skills can be improved but what you have won't be greatly improved over time(im talking initially after establishing yourself as a footballer, not as a youth), the WAY in which you use your strengths will....
Now for Alonso, he has learnt very quickly what his strengths are and how to improve his weaknesses, because he is clever in that way,  i dont think he has peaked yet but he won't go on to improve THAT much when he peaks....if you get my drift....becuase i think he is the type of player who will be consistant over his career in terms of quality, confidence and such will give him better seasons than others.....but a different type of player will not be that great early on, but drastically improve because he will learn the game more because he wasn't as smart as ppl like alonso early on....

thats what i think, hope it makes sense
