Disagree. I think a 3-2 loss is the best result in any european first leg away game. It gives you away goals and knowing you MUST win at home. If you win or get a draw, you can often find yourself at home playing for a draw sub consiously and even the best players can switch off for a second, if you switch off at home for a second it can cost you two goals (due to the away goal).

Its far better for the mental state of mind. I'd be alot more confident if Liverpool were to go there and lose, but score.

The problem is I can't see us scoring down there, but I can see them scoring at Anfield.

To many people on here are expecting us to walk this game, the reality is they're a hell of a lot better than us in nearly every position on the pitch.

Question Stu:

How do you plan tactically for that score-line?

I mean how do set-up and be prepared to leak 3 goals while scoring 2. I know its impossible to the get that exact scoreline, but if you wanted to come close, how do you do it?

(btw i am not taking the p.iss)

I think Rafa has been a absoute genius over the last couple of weeks. Mourino has been forced to play his best team over and over again while Rafa has not played his strongest 11 since the draw was made. Morurino will not have a clue what team Rafa put out

There is no way Morurinos tactacal preparations will be as good as Rafas. Yes the games over the last couple of weeks have not been good but it will all be worth it when Rafa out smarts Chelski for another time. :;): :;):

although i"m more nervous this time round,i"m also very optasistic with uor chances of winning BOTH ties. i only hope raffa plays 2 upfront-start with crouch & kuyt then if the delivery into the box is top notch from either wing i think the 2 strikers named would have a better chance of getting the vital away goal-win as i do agree we must score at the bridge to ensure the 12th man at anfield helps to secure our place in the final! i honestly think that going into the first leg playing for a draw would be a dangerous thing to do, & even though our defence is rock solid at the moment i still think if we so urgency going foward from the start it will be far more productive, even though people say playing in the cL is totally different, let maureen worry about us & not the other way around, we have been unlucky in recent results at the bridge, but i feel we have been to cautious in the past,as long as we boss the midfield & really put their defence under pressure from the kick off we could pull off another psv! (but only if our attitude is right) come on red men "make us dream"

the thought of the match is def starting to get me nervous, we're getting very close, it has the prospect of being another "hiding behind the couch" match and only daring to look when the commentators say we have the ball!!! Its gonna be a tight match home and away, no doubt about it, I see a 1-1 score line at stamford bridge, we're def gonna need an away goal, who would ever have predicted that chelsea would score two in the mestalla, as soon as i heard it was one nil to Valencia I was sure it was them we were facing in the semis but thats def not the way it went! My prediction of line up is -
                               Reina
Finnan         Carragher          Agger           Arbeloa

Gerrard         Mascherano      Alonso          Riise

                   Crouch            Kuyt

I def think he'll be going for Kuyt and Crouch in the away leg. Either way, its gonna be tight and its gonna be tough to watch!!! Come on the reds!!!!

Reina
        Finnan     Carra      Agger    Arbeloa
              Gerrard Mascherano  Alonso
      Pennant                                 Kewell
                            Crouch
Its seems a little crazy but possibly Kewell has been fit ALLLLL season and Rafa has been saving him for this fixture.  Jose will have NO idea what hit him. 2-1 Crouch, Gerrard!!!
Its crazy

I have for a long time reckoned playing home first is an advantage. If we settle for a 1-0 away defeat then any away goal in the second leg leaves the home side needing three. Arsenal came a cropper in that scenario and managed only 1 goal. Even a 1-1 draw leaves open

Given Kuyt's away form and tally in the Champions League (zero?) I might be tempted to play Crouch and Bellamy up front (as Fowler is unlikely to get the nod) I fear we will play the accursed 4-5-1 despite away goals being priceless and we don't exactly score hatfuls at Stamford Bridge. It's not as if our midfield is filled with obvious goalscorers other than Gerrard so where would the away goal come from if there's only one striker?

Riise and Gerrard on the flanks for me. They're the only two I can see scoring a goal.

Crouch up front on his own. Keep it tight in midfield. With Essien suspended and Ballack injured Masherano, Alonso and Stevie should take care of that. Id put Bellamy behind Crouch or on one of the wings, someone who will run and cause problems for the defence.

And also provide a much better defensive look than if Pennant was on the right or gonzalez on the left

Thanks for the input stu. You dont think we'll play it tight? We always do that away to chelsea dont we? Well mine is just an opinion.

Yopu are sounding more and more like a chelsea fan the more i read. Chelsea are tired, as an outfit we are doing just what Rafa always said, thats peaking at the end. Against Valancia, Newcastle, blackburn and spurs they were tired. Against west ham they won, but freak result. they are knackered, you can see that when they play.

So if we play our strong midfield, flood them, and grab a goal, cant see why im being so stupid ???

You accuse me of supporting another club... yet say you want United to win the league and FA Cup?

Classic.

chelsea are def tired, i watched the newcastle game y'day and it was very evident. As for bellamy playing, I'd like to see it as it would be a much more positive approach from Rafa than we'd normally see but i think that if does play 2 strikers, which i hope he does, then its gonna be kuyt and crouch. i honestly don't think we will see Bellamy, apart from the last 20 minutes or so if he gets on. I think in the nature of game that its going to be, Kuyt and Crouch will both be very much needed - Kuyt for his work ethic and tireless hassling and running and Crouch's fantastic feet and ability to hold the ball up for his, for the likes of Gerrard roaming about and Riise lookin to get into shooting positions

i say i dont want chelsea do. out of chelsea and manure id say manure for purely personal reasons...

come on, back to topic. dont u agree that chelsea look tired at the end of the season and that flooding the midfield could be a great opportunity for us? and if not, why not?
