What seems to be wrong with owen?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

He does not seem to be playing very well at the moment and his performances so far have been a bit lack luster.
He does not seem to be really going for it and i wonder if his recent injury's have not got him thinking too much and so not opening himself up to top speed when he could do.

i just don't know what could be done and after those performances if he comes home without a goal in the championship then i would  not be supprised if Benitez did not look at the possability of moving him on.

His game is getting Quite one dimensional and defenders are not finding him the handfull he once was.

i hope he snaps out of the form that he is in and proves me wrong but i still think that with him just looking at a short term extension to his contract to offer him a long one or cash in while his value is reasonable.

don't worry, when you will least expect it, Owen will come good.  I think a England-Germany semi will be on the cards and trust owen to come good then :;):

hope so as he is a nice guy and as he lives a couple of hundred yards from me i hope he can do it but my main concern is next season because i understand that he wants to win trophys but at the end of the day if he only signes for an extra year or two that is just saying i want the title this season or i am off. He has no right to hold the club to ransom over something that we all want and are trying to achieve.

He should sign up for 4-5 years and then look at his options because it then allows us to get a better price for him if he does leave.
we all know that contracts mean nothing and that money talks but he should at least try and show us the fans that he does have some loyalty to the club.

I think this article sums up the owen debate perfectly:

If Eriksson is seriously contemplating dropping Michael Owen, he should think again and resist the temptation.

The striker has not been helped by a revamping of England's attack with the introduction of Rooney. Whereas he formed a more natural "big man, little man" partnership with Emile Heskey, Rooney's more explosive gifts will take time to gel with Owen.

Rooney has an inclination, and has presumably been told, to come off from playing alongside Owen to receive the ball from midfield. This has often left his fellow forward isolated - ally this to a lack of quality supply from midfield and you have the current conundrum. Owen currently looks like a player who fears he may not get many chances in a game, making him over-anxious when an opportunity arises.

The cry for Vassell's introduction will continue, but in reality he is not in mikey's class. Vassell has done well with Rooney when coming on to replace Owen late in games.

Owen has been through these spells before where his pace, touch, confidence and worth have been doubted, both for club and country. But every time he has emerged successfully, and Owen's mindset is such that he always believes that next goal is only a game away. He is also a player who, once he has broken the spell, can go on a scoring streak.

Vassell will prove of greater worth to Eriksson as a late substitute in the heat of Portugal, where his pace and energy will punish tiring defenders. Owen has not been at his best yet, but England are only two games into a campaign. And the longer they remain, the more likely it is that he will get the chance to silence his critics - and take it.

I don't want to jump on the band waggon but I think that Owen isn't as good as he used to be, his main attribute (his pace) has gone and he doesn't look as lively as he used to.

I thank Michael for all the goals he has given us and would be sad to see him go but I think maybe now would be a good time to part company, even though Benitez wants him to stay weather he will sign a new contract is a differnt issue and if Gerrard leaves then I think Owen will leave   ???

Er...stmichael - unless you are BBC online's Phil McNulty, I think it'd be for the best if you don't rip off his comments wholesale. The bulk of your post is identical to part of his piece at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/euro_2004/england/3818055.stm

Nothing wrong with agreeing with someone - I agreed wholeheartedly with his piece - but you could at least credit him as your source so that we know whose opinion it actually is.

I was listening to TALKSPORT this morning, with those two fat fookers Parry and Brazil, and in his wisdom, fat ar*e Parry's topic of conversation was "Sven should drop Owen".

I felt compelled to call, and when I got on air, Parry didnt like what I had to say and cut me off.

My point was that Michael Owen recieved only one pass in the France game, and the big problem is that cus Rooney is dropping off to pick up the ball, Michael cant do the same as we MUST have one player staying up. There fore he cant run with the ball as he sometimes does to make his own chances, and he is restricted by the service he gets, which has been non-existent in the last two England games.

Michael has been written off more times than Maureen from Driving Schools' family car. He simply comes back time after time and proves the critics wrong.

Form is temporary, class is permanent, and you never lose it.

Oh for f*ck's sake - I just took offence to the fact that someone's posting under their own ID passing off someone else's well-formed opinion as their own. It's misleading, not to mention plain f*cking lazy.

If someone from the BBC website pasted someone's opinion from this forum into a piece with their name on it, this whole place'd kick off big time, so why shouldn't we give credit where credit's due?
