BORDEAUX VS LIVERPOOL - build up. gerrard ruled out

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Fowler has not travelled aswell as Agger.  Rafa said Sissoko has 80% chance of playing, Kuyt has 20%.

jesus, how we could do with hamann right now.

I wouldn't be worried about Bolo playing though. He's a good player, he won't let us down.

As for Gerrard, he probably wouldn't have played in this game anyway, he's never used in these CL away games. Wouldn't surprise me if he isn't even injured, but whenever he isn't picked that's all anyone talks about. If I was Rafa, I'd tell people he had a slight knock as it will hopefully stop them going on about why wasn't he playing.

He may of course, genuinely be injured, but if he has a dodgy hamstring I don't see how they can be so confident he'd be ok for the weekend. And why did he play the full game against Blackburn?

exactly... and if he did pick the injury up 'during' the draw on saturday - then wtf was he allowed to carry on playing for? knowing, in a week of fixtures vital to much more than points, but rather of 'confidence', he could very well of have exacerbated any minor strain into at least a 6-8 week absence because of a significant one.... that doesnt add up.

im inclined to go along with Espionage with his theory of, er, subterfuge   :D  that sounds like a line you'd expect to hear in the new Bond film.....

If Sissokom is 80% he will play alongside Alonso in the middle of the park. I also think that Gonzales might get a start with Garcia playing off Crouch in attack.

There should be no neagtivity from anyone heading into this game, even if we are missing key players. This is bleedin' Bordeaux ffs.

If Laslandes (failed at Sunderland) and Darcheville (failed at Forest in div 2) are their strikers we could play with Traore on his own at centre back and still win this.

I can't believe no one thinks Bellamy will play. I know he has only scored one goal but I think he poses more threat up front that Garcia.

Good point about him carrying on injured.  If he did pick up the injury during the match, I hope he didn't decide to carry on anyway and not let the bench know!  Wouldn't put it past Gerrard, TBH--he sometimes tries to hard to be "brave" rather than smart.

Given that possibility, I hope this is a case of subterfuge (stick that one in the Word thread!  :D ) or we may be without his services--or his full talent--on Sunday (shudder the thought).  :help

Bellamy may play but if he doesnt, it wont be down to his ability and form.  It will be the fact that we have man utd on sunday and at present we have fowler and kuyt both struggling with injuries.  An injury to Bellamy or Crouch would leave us with problems.

well, if it is a true case of injury. bad luck. but if Rafa is starting to play games ahead of sunday for the purpose of A) leaving Gerrard with a few days extra rest (though if thats the case, id suspect it to be tactically motivated, as opposed to anything mentally or physically orientated) bearing in mind the totally different game sunday will be. and of course the authenticity of any strain.  and B) in terms of Psychology and the use of it as a decoy. i dont mind for one minute if Rafa is bluffing to try and gain some minute advantage over Fergusons plans ahead of the game.(although in truth a relatively pointless task).  so what, he's been the worlds worst on that score. infact, you could probably bet your house on the fact that all his previous casualties to date - all make a sufficient recovery in time for Sundays encounter.

Sissoko in any case should be ready by then...but Zenden  ???  im not so happy to throw in the mix.

I think people should lay off Zenden a bit.

I don't think Bolo is especially good, but he's done better than many people are giving him credit for. He's been playing really well in the ressies too, although I realise that doesn't mean much because the standard is so sh#t these days.

I won't be worried if he starts tomorrow, and I'm sure he'd do a good job. I'm more concerned about whether our wide men and strikers will do their job.

mate - Bolo Zenden is not up to Liverpool standards, regardless of how little he cost us. yes, there is much to say in his favour and should be said in his defence for being that 'fish' out of water, that and his obvious efforts when called upon. but thats exactly what he will always be. a fringe player with no real place in an ambitious squad aiming to be Champions. Deadwood for me. he can do 'a' job sure, but not a significant enough one. sad to say he isnt alone on that score either... but cover only at best. this week he'll get another chance, we'll see.

watch him take off now ive called him  :D

Losing Gerrard is bad for us. and im not sure if Momo will definately be fit. With Kuyt only on the bench and Agger out for a while i think the rotation problem may not be sucha  problem. We should go on and win it though. its time for our lads to show the fans what they are made of.... we will win this match!

I dont agree !! Bellamy has done nothing this season to impress me apart from score...yeah he's tried but things just are not happening for him at the moment!

Garcia has played very well when hes had a chance. He has been creative and a real pain in the a.ss splitting defences!
Garcia is a player made for European ties like this....he always does well in these games!

he also looked promising when he linked up with Gonzales. pace and guile. two worthy weapons in a game where the opportunity to use them effectively is increased.
