6.7 mill for a sub isnt all that bad . i just dont know why 10mill for a first team player is too much if 6.7mill for a sub isnt ! Dont get me wrong...wasnt really excited about the prospect of alves, not pennant's biggest fan either...but...if alves is all that good and would have figured in the first team regularly....i would have paid and got him....overpriced...yes...who isnt in the market today ? carrick 20mill ?! Kuyt 12 ?!
Value for money...thats all i care for...pennant plays good and i think he will....he's worth the 7 or 8 mill !
Im just a little worried about that other gap we need to fill..striker...i heard Kuyt's deal is back on ?! is he really the best we can do ?!

Depends if you are basing the valuation on his WC performances or his Dutch League career really.....

A sub?  ???

So who do you think is going to be our starting right winger, Rafa hasn't spend £6.7m for Pennant to sit on the bench!!

Depends if you are basing the valuation on his WC performances or his Dutch League career really.....

If you judged Ronaldinho on the world cup you would be reluctent to pay more than 5 for him, same with Rooney.

The World Cup is a poor judgement for players, for fu*k sake, they linked Lucas Neill with a move to Barca after 2 good games!!

Hes done great Kuyt in the Dutch League and im going to reserve my proper judgement until ive seen him properly, if he does sign!

And Baros was top goalscorer at Euro 2004, look at him now.

yea...i think gonzales is favourite for that out wide position we have ! If we are to play 4-4-2....we already have gerrard-xabialonso-sissoko- X .so...yea....i think gonzales should have that 4th slot....on second thought...pennant would do good too..but the left flank would look so empty with no LM and thats why i think gonzales would feature more often than will pennant ! if we play 4-5-1 we'll still have the 3 center midfielders and say gonzales or pennant and luisgarcia(Bellamy) as SecondStriker !

i wasnt judging him...i think he's good but....trezeguet looks a better target and he's proven and not overpriced and a topclass striker...everything we need...stress on the PROVEN point.... and i think we can get him on loan...if not...might as well buy him ! value for money as i said....and he looks to be the real deal , orelse the big guns wouldnt have been tryin to get him to sign for them !

it hate stats..but....its the only thing that can back up what i have to say...

Trezeguet:
2001: 37 starts (33 goals)
2002: 28 starts (18 goals)
2003: 35 starts (28 goals)
2004: 23 starts (14 goals)
2005: 38 starts (30 goals)

Kuyt:
2001: 34 starts (7 goals)
2002: 34 starts (20 goals)
2003: 34 starts (20 goals)
2004: 34 starts (29 goals)
2005: 33 starts (22 goals)

Ok...thats a player in SerieA in trezeguet and one in the dutch league...you do the math....Trezeguet it is for me ! but at the momemnt....any one of the two would do !

Damn homie this kuyt...his stats are better than i thought they would be :D

Pennant completes Liverpool move

Pennant will wear the number 16 shirt at Anfield
Liverpool have signed Jermaine Pennant from Birmingham in a £6.7m deal.
The price for the 23-year-old winger, who has joined on a four-year contract, could rise to £8m with add-ons.

The Blues initially turned down a £3.5m offer and negotiated a higher fee as they have to give Pennant's old club Arsenal 25% of the cash received

Proven how though - Neither of them is proven in the prem, and Trezeguet is a pace player - We have Bellamy and Flo Po for that - We have Crouch for the hustle and bustle target man role - What we need is strength and a target

IMO Kuyt will be better at this than Trezeguet.

Proven is important, but only when you refer to being proven in the prem.....

Premiership proven with a dodgy character is just as much of a gamble as a player proven in europe with a good mental attitude and character(Alves) I am happy we have signed a young talented player but very unhappy at the price.(Hopefully like with Crouch Rafa will prove me wrong)Pennant was bottom of my wish list but now hes going to be wearing the red shirt he will get my full support. Pennant for England now :D

You can only judge a player on his price tag after he has played for your club, Everyone thought Kewell was a 5 million pound bargain, same with Morientes, but neither lived upto there price tag although Kewell has done a lot to repair some serious damage to his reputation.

That's such a vital point!  We won't know if we paid over the odds or got a bargain until many months down the road.  If the kid comes good, no one will be worrying about whether we paid 6 million or 8 million for him.  Do people worry that we've continued to pay Real Sociedad money for Xabi over and above his 10 million transfer fee due to appearances etc?  No they bloody don't--he's good value for money at 14 million as much as at 10 million!

People, seriously, stop sweating the fee.  Rafa paid it didn't he?  He clearly thinks he's worth paying that much for and he's not one to splash the cash recklessly.
