Last season Mikel Arteta was voted Fans Player of the Season....yes!

In Spanish yep, but many Basque surnames end like that (Mendieta for instance) as it's a suffix for "place" and his first part of the name is a prefix for Wheat, so his surname would mean "place where you keep the wheat" in Basque :D

He's a good player. He was a victim in Real Sociedad. He came as a startlet buy from our last corrupt president, and for some very strange reason he wasn't given a chance next year (only 4 complete games). I know it wasn't his fault (Mikel Alonso, Xabi's brother played instead of him and he's far worse) but something dark happened with him here.

I was quite confident he'd tryumph in England, although to be honest, I was dissapointed he went to Everton :)

I've heard he has a bad attitude, but 19 goals in a season, I'd take him up the arse tomorrow!

not surprising really you being an everton fan. I wondered why you lot were bitter, now i know

:D

You try and have a sensible conversation and somebody always has to ruin it. :no

To be fair, it's strange to encounter a Bluenose who wants to have a bit of debate.  Your eleven posts so far have not been in the slightest bit provocative, but believe me when I say that this is what Judge does.  Do not take it personally, he does it to everyone.

Firstly, good luck if you can keep the peace on here with your debates and secondly, welcome.  We used to have an Evertonian member on here who racked up 10,000 posts so it will not get personal unless you make it personal.  You don't appear to be a bitter Evertonian, but just remember you will always be a guest on here as long as you post.

I don't actually agree with you on Cisse though.  I've seen enough of him in the last two years to confidently say he will never fit comfortably into the system Rafa wants to play.  I say sell him at the earliest opportunity.  In his heart, he's found Liverpool Football Club to be his home but I think he knows his days are numbered and he's murmured about going back to France, so good luck to him I say, he's got a Champions League winners medal around his neck and that will always be there no matter what he does in the game for the rest of his career.

But Liverpool these days can do a lot better than Cisse and he's yet another relic of the previous regime who we will be able to say good riddance to.

I'm not here to wind-up or cause trouble...I love football and love a good debate about it.

judging from most peoples comments, a buyback clause wont be required for Cisse then? :D

I seen Mikel play for Rangers in the SPL and he looked very good...but who doesn't up there.

Since he's been at us he's done well. He has ability and was someone we needed to put his foot on the ball and spray the passes. He is much better than Gravesen who I never rated.

There has been a lot of rumours about Mikel joining LFC and he'd be a big loss for us, but from what i've seen, LFC don't need him. Alonso is superb and a far better player. Sissoko has done well and once he matures and gets used to the Premiership he'll be great (he'll really show what we missed out on :(  ). Also you have a certain midfielder called Gerrard so I really can't see where Arteta would fit in your midfield.

Yeah, mate, you need'nt worry about him joining up with Liverpool...we're pretty much sorted in the middle of the park!  :buttrock

So, watcha reckon?  Johnson going to pair well with Beatty next season?

Also, glad you changed your avatar...there was something weird seeing a Toffee with a red-shirt on his avatar!   :D

BTW, this wouldn't happen to be you would it?

Can I get back to you on the Johnson/Beattie partnership??..lol. To be honest they seem good friends which will help. Beattie is a target man, and Johnson is a striker who is quick and can score so on paper they seem good together but we'll have to wait and see. One thing I know for sure, we paid over the top for both of them.

I was waiting for today to change the avatar, as you said it did seem weird an Everton player in a red top.....but more an Everton player in an England top.

No, thats not me in the picture thank god, but i'd sue the tattooist who done it....it is very funny though  :D

People in Madrid laugh at Gravesen, because he's the typical defensive midfielder that doesn't anything fashionable, but he's a good player IMO. Defensively that is. Arteta is more attacking midfielder (not that defensive, i.e, he'd play just on front of Gravesen).

Arteta wouldn't have a place here, his *natural* place wouldn't be IMO the one of Alonso or Hamman, but the one of Gerrard or Sissoko, on front of the first two players, and he could never compete with Gerrard. Between Sissoko and Arteta though, I'd have my doubts.

What's wrong with Dave Kitson and Marlon King?

Marlon King? Are you serious? ???

Nope, of course I wasn't serious. I'd like to sign Kuyt and Darren Bent.

Bent isn't good enough. An improvement on Sissy maybe, but not good enough. Kuyt to me looks a very average player at best.

Wouldn't go near either of them.

Rafa is an excellent coach, however his signings have been distinctly average at best.

Only Reina, Sissoko and Alonso have been good signings so far.

He's made 4 or 5 poor ones already and he MUST get it right this summer. I still find it unbelievable he signed Crouch instead of Ashton when they both moved for the same amount.

And Agger if I may add. I know he hasn't had many games so far with us, but the few I've seen of him, he looks like he'll be the next CB of Liverpool F.C. Very promising.

You're right mate but Luke's already summed things up so perfectly that we've got nothing left to say about Cisse...might as well discuss Andy Johnson!  :D

its starting to resemble a decent team though, if you get huth and keep hold of yobo then at least you have a decent platform to build on.
i`ve yet to be convinced by johnson, he could be a world beater but over the years i`ve seen too many michael ricketts, marcus stewarts, andy richie`s, kevin phillip`s and even james beattie`s of this world who look like the new jimmy greaves for a season or so but cant do it year in, year out.
same with darren bent, we`re linked with him but i`m not keen on the lad, if he does the same next year then maybe yes.

To be honest...I dont want Huth. I would much rather have Lescott from Wolves. I think he's a better defender and better on the ball than Huth. Also I can't see us keeping Yobo. A contract has been on the table for over a year now, and he still hasn't signed. I have a feeling that if Arsenal sell Campbell, Yobo will go there.

I'm glad we signed Johnson but not for £8.6m even though its only £5m up front. His scoring record is good, almost 1 in every 2, but 2 seasons of that was a Championship level. He is what we need, a striker with a bit of pace so hopefully him and Beattie can connect and come up with the goods!

Someone mentioned before that you need 2 strikers....who would you like to see Benitez bring in?

I think David Villa would be a good signing also in the price range. Also Torres would be a good signing but I think its only Chelsea who could afford him.

Maybe a cheeky bid for Ruud Van Nistlerooy?
