I COMPLETELY and utterly disagree with you Leon.

It wasn't just any normal hard tackle that can be just forgotten about, it was an intentional career THREATENING tackle....Appaling....and Essien absolutely deserves a public hanging....

It's ok because YOU where not on the end of it....

Essien is stupid and vicious, that was criminal man, I was absolutely FUMING

I'm still just as furious.

Essien should be banned for the rest of the season, and be made an example of.

Ive said this in one thread and ill say it again, when Hamann produced a similar tackle on damien Francis last year, did you want the book threw at hamann, hes made a bad tackle and UEFA are dealing with it, get over it for f*ck sake, if a liverpool player made that tackle and uefa banned them for a season, id like to see your reaction then.

Essiens tackle was dreadful, he should have got red carded, but he never, Essien went for him and got him, but it could have been worse.

Nothing to do with it.

Here's an example....

If my brother starts a fight on someone in the street for no reason, though he's wrong, I'm on my brothers side no doubt about it.

Hamann is not only a Liverpool player, but one that is well loved by most of the fans....I'm so furious Essien made that tackle on him.

Whats wrong with some of you lot? Don't you bloody care care about our FU(KING players or what?

It was a shocking tackle. Deserved a red and the 3 match ban that comes with it. I'm happy UEFA studied the tape. Not sure i'd ban Essien for the rest of the season lads, that's seems OTT. Our Stevie has put in a few shockers over the years.

It's not that no one care's about the tackle mate, it's the fact Hamann himself has said not to dwell on it, so why should we?

Essien made a bad tackle and should have been sent off.  He will receive the equivalent in terms of matches banned which I think is sufficient.  All this talk about a season long ban is just completely over the top, like it or not, it will ultimately be up to the player himself and Chelsea football club/Mourinhio to stop this thing happening in the future.

Like others have pointed out I think this is now about the Mourinhio/Uefa spat rather than the incident itself

That tackle could have ended Hamanns career I hope they throw the book at him, he was red carded 4 times last season for Lyon, and his tackle on Ben Haim was nearly another leg breaker.
Cheating :censored: Chelsea hope he gets a 3 match ban.
We should count ourselves lucky it wasnt another Liverpool player for the same money it could have broken their leg.
Then we would miss another player for nearly a year due to rash challenges.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Disgraceful tackle by Essien, his second one of those of the season and he should get a lengthy ban, 5 games would be fair.  What he did borders on assault FFS.

Have to agree though that Uefa getting involved is linked with the spat after the barce game last year.  Otherwise they wouldnt be interested.

Mourinho's indifference to the tackle is the most disappointing, what an irritating git he is.  He'll get what's coming to him eventually.

As for the kaiser, hard as nails is right.  But does anyone remember a similarly disgraceful tackle the kaiser himself put in on someone a couple of seasons back.  It was awful and he got away with it, I remember the media picking up on it at the time.  But I also remember him apologizing for the tackle unlike that ponce Essien

He will get sorted one way or another. Sickens me to see how far away from the ball he was ,no wonder the ref didnt see it -the refs assistants need a trip to spec savers.
I hope they throw the book at him and ANY player that resorts to this kind of thing. What goes around comes around and i wouldnt be a bit surprised to see him on the recieving end of a few over the top tackles in the near future.

As disgusting and baltently deliberately vile this tackle was i feel a few are getting carried away a bit here!

OK Essien took him out
He had only one thing on his mind and that was to take him down, yes the intent was there. But how many times do we see a player fly in with one thing on his mind!
Essien hit the money shot on Tuesday, bang contact!
Yes i was disgusted by the tackle, but more so disgusted by the denial in the Chelsea camp and lack of remorse!
Last season when Alonso got injured by a bad tackle he recieved a private phonecall on the same night apologising....a decent gesture from Frank Lampard!
Although an apology does not excuse the studs up approach it goes a long way in showing the decency of the man and the fact he can admit that sometimes on the 'battlefield' he can get carried away and do things he may later regret!
The biggest difference between this year and last year is the fact we are now Euro Champions and also twice the team in our league. They see us as their biggest longterm threat and rightly so because we are and will be stronger! Dont expect remorse from the enemy but dont cry when they try and put you down either!
Let Chelsea try all the dirt they want.
Let Jose play all the mind games he wants as well!

The bottom line is Raffa Benitez and LFC are coming for them and they fear us more than we fear them!!

I think the lid should be put on this - obviously he's not going to get a ban for the rest of the season. He'd have had to have done the ref over to justify that.

3 CL games ban and an apology would do it for me.

My first thought was his leg's broken, and Hamann's LFC career was over.  It wasn't, it isn't, and now I think UEFA and Chelsea should do the decent thing and put it to bed.

Let's face it, Essien's going to get a seriously rough ride next time he comes against us, and having Stevie, Sissoko, Carra and - inevitably - Hamann gunning for him will almost certainly mean he gets his on the pitch in due course. :D

I would put money on Mourinhio not playing Essien the next time we meet them in the league, the amount of money he forked out for him, I am sure he will want to protect him from any wayward challenges.  Plus they are likely to have Makalele back.

But then again I hope that Rafa will rest Garcia the next time Liverpool encounter Roy Keane and whatever team he is playing for (and lets be honest, Keane has previous for dishing out his own rough justice)

Yes, it was a disgusting challenge. Essien had his beady eye on the ball all the way, so it wasn't a mis-timed attempt for the ball. He lunged in a different direction to the trajectory of the ball in an intentional foul on Hamann.

I agree with other posters - I'm of the opinion that Chelsea's response has been just as disgusting than the challenge itself. SubMourinho may not have seen it at the time. It's highly unlikely, seeing as Rafa, who was not sat very far away from Hoser, saw the challenge in enough detail to produce a very accurate imitation of it. However, we all know that every manager will analyse the television coverage of their own team after the match. How could he have missed it then, when such an uproar was made and action replays flashed across the screen almost every time the ball went out of play? The club should issue a statement about some in-house punishment for Essien's potentially career-ending intentional foul. Essien should issue an apology for his behaviour, which was no better than common assault. Yet neither has been done. Chelsea have such financial clout that they believe they are above such matters, but they're not. I bet every Chelsea fan's hearts sink when they have to defend a foul they know was wrong, and could have ended a footballer's career.

A season-long ban is simply not realistic, though. If the matter is investigated properly, Essien will be handed a three-match ban, equivalent to the ban he should have received if the ref had waved a straight red card for the foul. To get a season-long ban, Essien would have had to break Hamann's leg in fourteen places before violently bumming the ref on the penalty spot.

No disrepect Ivor and the rest who've said similar, but I seriously hope our team is above that kind of behaviour.  Here we are on one hand condemning Essien and on the other saying "it's alright - we'll break his leg next time we play him" - double standards?

Come on guys how could you respect any player who intentionally goes out to injure some one else.

I hope Essien gets his deserved 3 match ban and we rise above it play professional, hard but fair football (we currently have the fourth lowest number of fouls in the league).
