It should have been a red card which would have been followed by a 3 match ban. Since the ref missed it, the punishment should be 3 matches also. No reason to go overboard like 6 matches or longer ban.

what wind up?   10 match ban is nonsense and i think many people will agree with me 3 match ban a hefty fine is right....i remeber gerrard tackled an everton player some times a go and i dont think many of liverpool fans saying he should get a ten match ban, that tackle from gerrard was worse two footed.

If the refs concerned had done their jobs properly, Essien would have had two red cards to his name and been suspended for six games so far this season. If the appropriate action i.e. giving a red card where a red card is due there should be enough punishment already built into the system. If a manager continues to support and defend a player who regurlarly commits these type of tackles thats were the FA/UEFA/FIFA need to step in and remind the manager of the 'fair play' slogan and threaten action against the club if it continues.

As an aside, I think a lot of the calls for 6 and 10 game suspensions are brought about by frustration due to the number of blatantly incorrect decisions that have gone Chelsea's way this year.
