New centre back required - Campbell or king maybe

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Well I have'nt forgotten the own goal, but it is not like he passed the ball back to the keeper too strong and it went in in some calamity fashion, nor did he do a Djimi!!!
A dangerous ball was put in the box and he made a mistake, you gonna judge him on that one mistake??

I noticed him in euro '04 to be honest, and have liked him ever since (regular La Liga watcher btw!).

People seem to have forgotten the own goal he scored against us, and at the same time lamenting him as a world class defender. Lets hope that was a one-off situation.

Thats football, the nature of the game. Carragher has scored own goals before I believe and so have many class defenders, that's an unfortunate thing but just the way it is.

He's a class defender regardless.

Heh. And I thought you were judging him only by his goal against Newcaslte.

After all, own goal is an own goal, and we have to very much take it into consideration when we buy a new CB.

Come on man, I know a bit more about football than to judge a player on one performance, and evermore so when you consider it was a DEFENDER that scored a GOAL!!! You cant judge how good he is based on scoring if he is a defensive player!!!

Im sure we had a debate about defenders before Militia and so I thought you would know about my appreciation for the art of defending!!

You're still missing the point. If Andrade was known for scoring own-goals then you might have a point but you don't. He had a misfortunate incident that led to an own goal. Like I've said Carragher has scored own goals before, perhaps we shouldn't play him anymore?

As a stop-gap one off Gerrard could certainly play there. He posesses all the attributes required and any mistakes would be disguised by his pace.
Realistically though, we probably need two new players which this near to the season starting is going to be difficult. I've said it many times before that I think we need someone who would adapt immediately to the Prem, maybe even someone who already plays in it. They need to be young, strong, powerful and quick. Unfortunately these blokes don't come cheap but sometimes you gotta dig deep.
Get on the phone, how much do they want for Ledley King? My suspicion is that a bid of around 18 million would do the trick both in terms of tempting Spurs and of turning the head of a top young player (Spurs are not in Europe at all this season and the World Cup is the Summer). He IS the player the player we need I'm convinced of it. We're not Chelsea by any means but given the fact the strings are tight at Manure and Arsenal now could be the time to dig deep and close the gap.
Go get him. He is our man.

instead of spending 18 million for king, i reckon we could get gallas for 10 million. Lets face it. Gallas will not be a 1st choice centreback at chelsea even though he is their best defender in my opinion. Mourinho will always play terry and his lackey (carvello) ahead of him.

They also have robert huth...so i guess (hope) they would sell gallas if we give them 10 million.....

So he scores one own goal and you believe we should consider not signing him?

It's probably the only time you have seen him play and you judge him on that, pathetic. I suppose if Carra scored an OG against Kaunas then he should be promptly dropped from the side?

Get a grip.

Would be nice, but the problem is Chelsea don't need the money and aren't going to sell a good player to one of heir main rivals in their own league.

Can anyone who is 100% sure on the rules clarify this for me. Last night, I was watching the toon game and I'm sure I heard the commentator say that players who played at this stage of the Intertoto were now cup tied. Is this true? If it is, then I no longer want Andrade, and this sucks. :(

Milito isn't coming to Anfield - "Another player that Liverpool have been linked with all summer has no made it clear he won't be arriving at Anfield. Gabriel Milito had been quoted earlier in the summer as being desperate for a move to Anfield, but has now signed a new five-year contract with his current club, Primera Liga side Real Zaragoza. The Argentine central defender was offered the same money by his current club as Liverpool were set to offer, and so decided to stay in Spain."

When will Rafa put us out of our misery?
