Pires is hardly a veteran.

I think next year will be tough, not because we are European Champions but because the premiership is as competitive a league as any in Europe. I do think that we will finish in the top three but for anyone who suggests Chelsea are predictable and Arsenal are past it and Man Utd a spent force is sorely mistaken. On top of that teams like Everton, Bolton and Middlesborough will be looking to crash the party with Newcastle and Spurs also big clubs who will demand massive improvement. Come August the slate is wiped clean, European Champions, First Division winners, play off winners and teams who barely stayed up last season will all do battle once again and all will want to win every game. Bring it on I say, I think Rafa the Gaffer will have learnt a lot in his first season and with an improved squad will give it his all to get us as high as we can possibly make it.

I take it you didnt see arsenal beating us 3-0 or the absolute tonking of 7-0 they give to the bitters, I am more worried about arsenal than chelsea and the manc, they have some great young talent and they play the best football in the prem on there day, brilliant to watch except when its against us.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I agree, Arsenal will definitely be the team to beat next season IMO.  They have fantastic young players in Fabregas, Flamini, Senderos and Van Persie who came of age towards the end of last season, a bit too late to claw back Chelsea's lead.  They are still the best team in the league coming forward and with Campbell coming back and Senderos's improvement they will be solid at the back again.

I can't see Chelsea getting as high a points total again.  Not only were they fortunate with injuries, but the likes of Terry, Lampard and Cech will struggle to reach that level of consistency every season.  There's too much happening off the pitch with the scum for them to win it next season i think.

As for us, I think we'll improve and will definitely be in the top 4, closer points-wise to whoever wins it, and possibly 2nd if we get a bit of luck with injuries etc

I agree that teams will want to be able to say 'well we just beat the European Champions', but WE ARE LIVERPOOL.
Although there isnt the same fear put into teams as years gone by, everybody knows here that when we lose to say a southampton or a crystal palace - that the reaction from the commentators, pundits and written media, make it a big event....just because WE ARE LIVERPOOL.

So tho i am kind of worried that teams will up their game against us, at the same time, WHY the hell should we be surprised or worried about that as it is nothing new realy is it??
i have said already and will say again....

WE ARE LIVERPOOL !!!!

And ok we havent had the same glory in recent (when i say recent, im talking from '91 onwards!) years but beating us means a lot to managers, players and opposing fans alike.

Another point is, if WE CANT up our game (like second half of CL final) when others bring it to us, then we dont deserve to win anyway.
Dont worry guys (and gyals - CGGY!) i think the manager and players will be ready for this!!!

When were arsenal ever beating us 3-0 ??? It was 2-0 halftime gerrard pulled one back and we were dominating and then they scored  a fluke third in injury time, but never make out arsenal are better than us cos i honestly believe on last seasons performances against them it was 50-50. Consistency is our problem not the opposition!!!

Right and wrong mate.

Consistency is our major problem, you're right on that.

As much as I'd like to say we are as good a side as Arsenal at the moment, thats rubbish.  Arsenal still play the most fluent attacking football in the league, defence let them down this season though.  Watch Arsenal compared to us, far better passing, good use of the wings and always seem to create space in the opposition 3rd.  Thats what we are aiming for and I'm confident Rafa will get us to that level and surpass it once he brings in a few players and susses out the prem properly.  To say we are that level now is simply wishful thinking though

Yes....... we are as good as Arsenal they beat us at highbury and got the better anfield. They did better than us in the league, we the better in Europe!!

What because a team is a little prettier rather than passionate thier BETTER??- B0ll0ocks mate!!

I'll bet you any money Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia are better technically than England- Will they ever beat us??

I'm not stating Arsenal can never beat as thier more than capable but to say were behind Arsenal on these arguments is an out and out lie!!!!!!

I guess one way of figuring it out is to put together a Liverpool - Arsenal 11 and see who gets the most players. Am gonna try it now (bet i end up with more reds than gooners and end up having to agree with ya!)

GK - Dudek
LB - Cole
CB - Carra
CB - Campbell
RB - Finnan
LM - Pires
CM - Gerrard
CM - Viera
CM - Alonso
RM - Ljungberg
CF - Henry

Admire your passion and confidence Galactic but we simply aren't at Asenal's level right now. Granted we certainly figured out the way to play in Europe and thats something Wenger has not been able to do in all his teams' forays over the last 7/8 years BUT (and it's a big BUT) - The league is the real measuring stick for comparing teams (atleast it is for me). I know we matched up pretty well to Arsenal in both our games this season but we still finished a country mile behind them in the league and have not finsihed above them for years.

If we had finished 6/7 points behind them i would probably agree with you but it's a big gap and if the season started tomorrow with the 2 squads as they are now i would fancy the gooners to finish above us again.

Mate stats dont lie and personally the big teams i'm not afraid of as i've already stated we are as good- no doubt it's the birminham cities, blackburn, tottenham's which brings me to my very first topic in these forums, that signing foreigners from more technical leagues despite thier reputation generally are up for the football just not the physical aspect!!

Look at Veron, Crespo, Forlan,Reyes-to a degree(Sevilla this boy was a god) Thats a combined total of 100million-MORE!!!
Yet thier now playing brilliantly, bar Reyes, can you see why im so sceptical spending our fortune (1/3 of the sum listed above) around Spain?

Yes Alonso is class Garcia we all know he's brilliant but i can't help but think Garcia would be even better in Spain or Italy- True or not? Josemi and Nunez sorry but there w*nk!!

if parker is available sign him. I was born in Prescott raised in London everyone in this city goes on about this kid, you lot only hear what the papers say. This lad is perfect along with Alonso or Gerrard in the middle of the park not to mention Hamann we'll look absolutely solid.
More importantly he'll allow much more freedom for the others to shine!

Long live Igor (best of luck) but Parker is much better and with four good defensive midfielders well three at least (Gerrard loves to get forward!) our team defensively will be sorted (with the cover for hyypia-granted). Therefore Rafa get the cheques out for Luque Vicente and co.

So a one-off game proves we are as good as Arsenal???

Try again mate :D

If you want to look at stats look at the league table

I do admire the passion though

A one off game........ that was two games i posted home AND away...And if you look carefully at BOTH you'll see were not as good as Arsenal...BUT better than Arsenal. Oh yes the league (injuries maybe, new look team) But why not have a look at the European Cup PERMANENTLY on display!!!

Or in your eyes (john craig) an F.A. cup is maybe better than the European Cup

Oh by the way this is Arsenal's record compared to us throughout the premiership years:

Liverpool V Arsenal Premiership Stats

Overall Record

Home  Away
P  W  D  L  F  A  W  D  L  F  A  GD  PTS
26 7  3   3 2410 5  4    4 11 13+12  43

Why do we always fall short of the league...... baffles me, but to say were not as good as the top 3 is b0ll0cks!!!!
Stats DONT lie where we fall short is the likes of Brum, blackburn and co....maybe our squad aint big enough-who knows but i hope Rafa gets it right this year!
