Why cant we play fluently ? like top epl teams - Key to the top 3 this season.

im just curious as to why Liverpool have this Lack of ability to play with fluency, like you see week in week out, for the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd. and too Versus AC Milan 1st half over in Istanbul.

I mean taking the ball from defence and pass-pass-pass-pass, to attack and a goal! instead we are quite predicatable, with the long balls from Alonso and Gerrard, looking for the target man up front. we need to be more clever in our play.

its been absent for years, and at times we look flat, especially without gerrard. the likes of Sissoko and Hamann just tend to spread the ball from sde to side, whilst not making a huge impact. Although we are unbeaten in pre-season, we havent really played a competitive match.

I feel this is the key to us getting in the top 3 this season.
there is still something missing. The first 8 games of the season will tell us a lot i reckon.

Although im not overjoyed with all of benitez's signings, there is still a lack of quality in the team.
I think a top 3 finish will be tough, and it will be hard to retain the champions league. we were very lucky last season for a number of reasons that do not boil down to class:

1. when olympiacos hit the post and bar,in the away leg, group stages.

2. Deportive scoring an own goal away, group stages.

3. 3 goals versus olympicos in last 20 mins.

4. Del piero's header ruled offside at Anfield, when it was clearly on.

5. Juventus hitting the post in Turin.

6. Lampard Missing a Sitter.

6a. Gudjohnson missing a sitter.

7. Ibrahimovich missing a sitter.

8. Shevchenko goal ruled offside when it was clearly on.

9. dudek save from schevchenko,

10. Dudek penalty save from Pirlo, when dudek was 4 yards off his line.

Amongst others.!

So if we can repeat that sequence of lucky events then we may well have a chance to retain.

other than that we need, class and fluency.

As much as people scoff, of course you raise some valid points. Unfortunately, fluency is the magic recipe that every team searches for and rarely achieves. There are countless theories as to what the ingredients to this mystical formula are, and some of the greatest minds in the game have driven themselves crazy looking for it.
In my view, fluency is about good players, being confident in each others ability to play the ball properly. It almost always goes in conjunction with a certain rhythm and tempo which suits that particular team. Usually, there are a couple of players who are absolutely crucial to that machine performing to somewhere near it's maximum. Usually it's an unsung hero, Makeleli at Chelsea or the slightly more recognised Scholes at Manure. We have to find our own metronome and the most likely candidate is Alonso.

To Luis Garcia who posted this thread! U stated ten points stating how lucky we were to win the Champs League! It cracks me up,really angers me how people who claim to be fans can be so negative of our team! U never mentioned all the great goals on the way,Rafas genious tactics against different teams which he got down to a tee when to play any other way would have been suicide or how our boys sweated blood in Istanbul to bring home the Euro cup for us!Not once in ur post have u said anything positive about LFC.Some people just wont be happy until they get perfection,it does not exist! LFC will never be perfect but they will always be great and special!
No team has ever lifted the Euro cup without a bit of luck on the way and no team ever will!

You're assessment of how the top 3 teams play is all wrong.  Arsenal are the only team in the prem that plays really fluent football, passing from back to front.  They hardly ever play long balls.  In addition, the fact that they usually only add 1 or 2 players each year and most of the team have played together for ages helps the fluidity of their play.  They are the benchmark for us imo.

Chelsea defend well as a team and have the best defence, that is their main strength.  Attacking-wise they rely on long balls to Drogba and the individual flair of Duff, Robben and Lampard.  They are not a fluent team to watch.

Man U don't play many long balls, but their play was not that fluent last year either.  They keep the ball better than us but their passing is not at the level of Arsenal.  Again they rely more on individuals now than they did in the late 90's when they cut through teams with their passing every week.

We weren't a fluent passing team under Houllier because of his counter-attack tactics, and we aren't that fluent yet under Rafa because we have a lot of new players coming in from other leagues and Rafa himself is adjusting tactically to the premiership, but we will improve this season.

there is room for improvment ie our defending but in every game we have played up to now we have scored 2,3,4 goals in every game so ther also a lot of positives.

surely the first thing we have to do is learn how to win and make ourselves damn difficult to beat by however or whatever means it takes. We can then go forward and with the confidence from winning and grinding out results away from home, hopefully the confident fluid football will come

I dont normally respond when someone makes a stupid post, but this has to be the most shocking one ever.

1. The 'ifs' and 'buts' can apply to anyone, if we got the penalty against chelsea in the league, if gerrard didnt get injured, if alonso didnt break his ankle maybe we would be top of the league as well.

Im sorry but ur a F.UCKING STUPIED C.UNT.
