I'm growing in respect for rafael benitez everyday

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby MilanBarosLFC » Fri Apr 15, 2005 4:29 pm

Rafael Benitez might have been in charge of Liverpool FC for less than a year but the guy has already brought so much to the team. We might be inconsistent but i'm sure that next season it would get better. We are playing some very attractive football up to the point that some great european managers are giving credits to Liverpool's performance in the champions league and Rafa is fully aware that his team need to find the same rythm in the EPL.

The spaniard has also brought it some quality(and proven) players, for example, Xabi Alonso(Real Madrid were also in for him but we focussing more on Viera at that time), Luis Garcia(full of tricks), Fernando Morientes(world class striker).

Compared to the "players for the future" that Mr Houllier brought in(8 millions pounds for Heskey, 10 millions of El-Hadji Diouf), Mr Benitez got an internationally proven star in Morientes for less than that.

He has also managed to get the best out of players such as Jamie Carragher(player of the season for me), Igor Biscan and Djimi Troare(who has been very solid at the back apart from his acrobatic move in the FA Cup). We were also seeing glimpses of the Harry Kewell we knew as a Leeds player but unfortunately he was again hit a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

He has done all that in less than a year. I think that we will have some great times waiting for us in the years to come. He is giving all players a chance to prove themselves. I have been very impressed by Scott Carson. He has very good reflexes. Some of Rafa's signings have taken time to settle in. Antonio Nunez was heavily criticised when he came back from injury but i have noticed lately that he has been fighting for the ball. Josemi has also shown some great skills but has also been hit by some injury problems. Mauricio Pellegrino has achieved a lot at Valencia under Benitez and Rafa has definitely brought him to Liverpool to transmit his experience to the young defenders. Pelle is also settling in well.

We should give Mr Benitez some more time to make the players understand his ideas clearly. Don't take chelsea and their manager as an example as they have 22 proven stars to rely on, but we don't have such facilities. But we have a manager who is very eager to achieve things with Liverpool.

That's why i say " My respect for Mr Benitez is growing day by day ".

What are your opinions ???

Quality manager, definitely the right choice IMO

His track record speaks for itself and next season we will be a lot closer to the top of the table points-wise.

Good post.

I do also agree that Nunez has improved a lot, Pelle looks a lot better and written off players like Traore and Biscan have flourished. No doubt he is a top quality manager.

And his signings have been of good quality. Garcia is a special player, Alonso is sheer class and Morientes is a experienced international. Carson, given the fact that he is young and inexperienced, has impressed me. His reflexes are good as you said.

Compare Benitez to Houllier by comparing Carson to Kirkland. It is clear that Benitez will get a lot more out of his signings. At 15% of Kirklands transfer price Carson has already proven to be the better prospect. How Houllier wasted 6 million pounds on a relegation goalkeeper conceding a record amount of goals at Coventry is beyond ridiculous. And when I see Kirkland play I cry. He has no speed in his legs and no reflexes. His footwork sucks and he makes a lot of decision errors. Carson on the other hand stands out as a more complete player without serious weaknesses in his game. If Carson continues his progress he will become a better keeper than Dudek in a couple of years.

Next season can be special, and even with a squad decimated by injuries we can still win CL.
If football is banned in heaven. I'd rather go to hell.

... never any doubt in the quality and pedigree of the Boss...

....the real issue now is the funding available to him to strenghten and build the team he wants... It's not just about CL football... much more it's about how the club's silverware will be distributed and for how much.. like Parry said "u can only sell the family silverware once.."  the fact is that there has been little movement and more rumour on the investment front.. this will impact.... and Parry and Co need to sort this out soon...  if Benitez is truly to succeed and compete with the others ..
THE BRENDAN REVOLUTION IS UPON US !

KING KENNY.. Always LEGEND !

RAFA.. MADE THE PEOPLE HAPPY !
