Makelele - If gerrard goes

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If Gerrard goes to Chelsea (I don't want a whole discussion on that) should we try to get makele.

I think he is class. Henry said that he is more important to Chelsea than lampard but as Lampard is English he gets the media attention.

I think Makele would fill the defensive roll very well and leave Alonso create. As he's older he shouldn't be too expensive and we'd still have bags of cash left.

Makelele is a great player and would be a valuable asset to LFC but, given the choice, I would sooner see Ruben Baraja come over if Stevie goes

i imagine whoever we replace steven gerrard with would be partnered with xabi alonso, makelele is a great player however him and xabi would not be the most effective midfield pairing and would not compliment each others style, makelele likes to sit back and play the simple ball, xabi likes to sit back and spray the ball around, 2 great players but i think we need someone who will run at players like aimar or joe cole, not saying id love to have joe cole but that sort of player

Chelsea won't sell Makelele. In a hypothetical transfer to Chelsea Scott Parker would come into the equation although I myself believe that if Gerrard was to be sold, Benitez would invest his money in La Liga talent.

Makelel can take a lot of credit for their defensive record this year.  Mourinho wont sell him.

Id go for the Scott Parker theory myself. I thought Cole until the last few months as I cant see him leaving there either

I don't think Parke or Cole are good enough for LFC. Can we get Steve McMahon out of retirement?

If gerrard goes then I think we need someone with Premiership experience. Someone that won't take a season to get used to english football. Makalele would be a good signing. To be honest I can't see Lampard, Gerrard or Makalele wanting to sit on the bench. But did anyone see Chelsea vs Birmingham Makalele wasn't playing and Chelsea were terrible, Makalele is too crucial to Chelsea's team.

If Stevie does decide to go i think we should invest
in Ruben Baraja because him and xabi i think play
together in the Spanish team so they might know each
others strengths and create a good partnership since they are both world class players    :D

I cant see why Mourinho would want to change a midfield that has walked the league and been comfortable in every game in Europe (apart from barca away). He has this week been talking about Makelele being Chelsea player of the year, and i think the only reason he would still want Gerrard now would be to stop him signing for a major rival.

Forget Makelele. Chelski would never sell him to us. What about Steed Malbranque?? Am I the only one who rates this guy very highly??

Don't think Gerrard is going anywhere this summer and neither is Makelele, all hypothetical.

In my opinion Makelele is the most underrated player around.  Doesn't do anything fancy but he must win more tackles and loose balls than anyone else in the prem.  He also passes the ball well and is superb at closing players down.  Best defensive mid in the world I reckon and you can see how much Real miss him, they have never been able to replace him.

Unfortunately guys, we will not be seeing Makelele playing for LFC

No Malbranque is a good player but at the moment his form is poor.

If Gerrard did go i would rather have Gallas

Gallas considers asking away from Chelsea
tribalfootball.com - April 12, 2005

Europe are on red alert after it emerged William Gallas is considering his future at Chelsea.
The Daily Express says Gallas is fed up with playing at left-back and will quit Chelsea unless Blues boss Jose Mourinho starts playing him at centre-half.
Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool are among Premiership rivals sure to be involve in an auction should Gallas become available.
But if he is to lose the Frenchman, Mourinho is likely to push him towards the continent as he is reluctant to sell his best players to Premiership opponents.
