Babbel gets recall for Germany
04/03/2005 - 15:15:54

Former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel has earned his first call-up to the national team in five years for the friendly away to Slovenia on March 26.

The 32-year-old Stuttgart player is one of 33 players called up for a get-together on the Tuesday and Wednesday before the game to allow head coach Jurgen Klinsmann to decide which 20 to keep for the game.

Babbel’s former Anfield team-mate, Dietmar Hamann, has been also recalled, and he was notified of his inclusion following an impressive goal-scoring display in the 3-1 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen 10 days ago.

Thomas Hitzlsperger (Aston Villa), Moritz Volz (Fulham), Robert Huth (Chelsea) and Jens Lehmann (Arsenal) are also in the squad.

Good for him. Done very well for us, shame about what happened.

I hope he create a space in the last 20 for himself. These are his last days on the pitch and he deserves one more national cap.

he didn't play for us for us the season after the treble I think it was cos he got some disease of the nervous system. He really never got a look in once he returned and was sold as a result.
