It still amazes me how many people still look for scapegoats on this forum.
For me, Gerrard has been no worse than many other players over the last month or so.  The fact that people are having a pop at his performances is purely and simply because most of the time he's been head and shoulders above the rest.

I also think we'd be mad not to take 40mil.  If invested wisely - that could potentially re-build half the first team.

But if he goes or if he stays - you wont' find me slagging him off - unless it really is true that he's at war with the manager or his heart is not at the club.

Nothing that has happened in the last few weeks has made me question S G.
He has on ther other hand - played his part in some very stale Liverpool performances as have the rest of his team mates.

Chelsea want Gerrard badly.  If Gerrard is on the market they'll top any bid Madrid make.

Obvioulsy cover would be needed to come in for stevie! But we could also look at good english players like SWP and King!

SWP alone is worth 25 million, 25 million for a hobbit? I don't think so. If SWP is worth 25 million then Gerrard is worth a good 50 million.

In the early 90s, Juve always had the measure of AC Milan head to head but they were less consistent and did not win the championship. Then, Marcello Lippi (or his predecessor) sole their star flair player, one Roberto Baggio, to AC Milan and then rebuilt the team who went to win the Scudetto and also the Champions' League. Juve did it again when they sold Zinadine Zidane and went on to win the Scudetto more regularly.

Look at Everton, without Sherk, they are playing with more togetherness and coherence. Without Gravesen, they may start to sink and eventually fade away. It is not always the obvious player that is the most important, but the ones who let the so-called stars play their game who are more crucial. The Sammy Lees, the Ian Callaghans, the Ronnie Whelans and it seems at this present moment, Xabi Alonso.

Don't be so overly worried, it may sound cliched but it is not the only one player who makes the club.

Brilliant post. I've been saying this for the past two pages of this thread.

Him leaving could make us a better team as a whole.

i would say he is worth 35m to may be 40m at most, only chelsea and madrid will pay these prices if they were not interested in buying and we all know they are we would prob only get 25m max for him.i think wright phillips will go for 15m to 20m gerrard is not that much a better player than him to be honest and i know they both have different qualities. But i believe as well with gerrard going it will hopefully make us a more complete team.

As loathed as iam to see Gerrard leave and i believe we should do everything possible to keep him, such as exchanging Baros for Owen and letting L4 put in a take over bid.  However Gerrard looks like his mind is made up as his recent performance is reflecting, this is have a terrible effect on the rest of the players after all if the captain doesn't want to play, why shd they make an effort.  The money gained cld revamp Liverpool personally i wld love to c us buy SWP, Downing, Woodgate, L.King, Aimar and mabye Owen to create a more complete team that wld not see us struggling year after year to reach the forth spot.  ****** were LIVERPOOL FC we shd be winning or at least contending for titles not struggling to reach the champions league.

One player dont make a team but one player can make a team better,I still think Sg is the best in the world at what he does but 40 mil is a lot of money but one thing u all forget is how much of that 40 mil will rafa be able to spend? all of it ? i dont think so maybe 25mil if were lucky. Then again its all rumour and  what ifs at the moment

I bet that rafa gets the whole fee from gerrard to spend on new players there would be a backlash from the fans if he was only given half, especially if there was still no investment coming in.

Fistly i can't really see where gerrard would play in the chelsea team as they already have two central midfielders who can't get replaced, possibly makele but gerrard doesn't like playing as a defensive midfielder. I cant see him going to madrid as they already got one offensive midfielder, zidane so i cant really see where he would play either and with the form zidane has been recently i doubt they would replace him.

I dont want him to leave bt if it had to happen i'd sell him to madrid even if chelsea offered more. it would be heartbreaking to see him line out at anfield not wearing a liverpool shirt. but maybe IF he leaves, then the rest of the team will start performing like when rooney left everton. plus the 37million would buy us a good new midfielder and a centre half. i have to look on the bright side here

                                                 :(  :(  :(  :(
Steve Gerrard Gerrard,
He'll pass the ball 40 yards,
He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
Steve Gerrard Gerrard.

Two points......................

1. This is pure speculation and nothing more.

2. There isn't any player good enough to keep Gerrard on the bench at any team so he certainly wouldnt be signed by anybody as 'cover'.

as long as we get good dough for him, it would be devastating for him to play against us if he signed for chelski, so id rather he'd go to madrid.  i think he might turn out like beckham if he went to them, i think he might be setting himself up for a big fall

i think he is going to go and yes we will miss him but if we get good money for him and dont spend it on a spanish player then i will be happy.
