I honestly havent a bad word to say about the fella. Hes our captain ,our best player and i wont knock him for love nor money. We all know what hes capable of especially from long distance shooting ,in fact I would encourage him to do just that now and again. You said he blazed over-maybe next time eh! Carragher might be a better captain, but why change it now. Every player has flaws in that team -its unfair to point out Gerrards alone.

It says a lot that we're all standing by Rafa whilst our star player is bailing out.

Why change now well because if Gerrard keeps disapearing then we will in fact an Owen saga over again. Gerrard can't keep trying to win it by himself, its not good for the team imo as this is not a one man club.

When Gerrad was injured many players stepped up to the plate and got the job done. Alonso didn't try to win it himself when Gerrard was injured, he got his team-mates involved instead. You have to be a team player. Look at Keane for example.

Without Alonso Gerrard has to be the one thats going to dictate the passing game because Hamann sure as hell can't do it. If you can't control the midfield then you can't control the game. When Alonso was in the midfield Gerrard could go forward and attack because Alonso took care of the passing game, now Gerrard can't do that because Hamann is not the best passer in the world. You have to get the team involved in situations like this.

I have nothing against Gerrard, he's a great footballer but as a captain he should do his best during times we need him most. Against Everton we needed him, against Man Utd we needed him. Alonso got his ankle broken by Lampard and what did Gerrard do? Pat Chelski players on the back.

When the ref didn't give us the penalty who stepped up and got in the ref's face? It was Carragher, Gerrard was no where near the ref at that time protesting the call.

Once again don't take it the wrong way, as good as a player he is, he has his weaknesses that have been exposed in rescent games such as the one against Man Utd where an old man such as Keane had him in his pocket.

Guys, the fact that Gerrard is so outstanding especially for Liverpool is because he, while being a very good player, is surrounded by aferage to mediocre players. For England, he had not shined as he had for Liverpool - becuase he had mainly been played not in his usual role at the club and also because the whole England team plays mediocre football and at international level, it is hard to be a one-man show and take the game by the scruff of the neck.

What I am getting at is that in my opinion, Gerrard has not reached Roy Keane's level and although he has a terriffic engine, he is not a complete a player as Graeme Souness was who can do it all - command the midfield, make killer passes, make crunching tackles, win balls, accurate through passes and shoot accurately with either feet. His feats were not seen so spectacular because he had excellent team mates in the Liverpool team then. Also, he does not get sent off very often, I can recall less times than Gerrard.

So, to the main point. If he can command a 37 million or so transfer fee, so be it. If Chelsea bids higher, then let him go there. I don't think he can eclipse lampard or Terry at Chelsea and if he does go there, he won't be such a major success. Let him go and use the funds we receive wisely on new recruits.

He's been inspiring. Lot of passion to play. Get the game going. If he leaves, then we need a new leadership on the field. It happened to Newcastle as Shearer is not playing anymore. They lost their game play and everything go down the drain. But, if Gerrard wants to leave, I think we should let him go. He wants to feel the grass on the other side as well. It's definitely better if he move abroad. Although, I think, he's lacking the required skill to be a very influential midfield (like superb passes, good control, body movement), he still a good player. If the price is 37M pound, then I would say we should grab it. Use themoney to get 2 good defenders, 3 good midfielders and a young striker who will be ready in a year or 2....

I think the only reason if he want to leave is that he want success in his career and to play in CL every season with Liverpool (that’s his first plan) but it seem that Liverpool is not perform well not only this season. For the last few season, Liverpool being struggling to get that 4th place, the gap between Liverpool and Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal is “too wide” and on top of all that teams like Everton, M’boro and Newcastle, they are perform much better than Liverpool.

I said keep SG, no matter how much it’s worth. If Liverpool perform well this season and perform better next season, I believed that SG would stay for life and if it’s happen that way, a lot of world class players wanting to come and play for Liverpool because as a club we are success.

Remember guys, one player does not make the team.

In the early 90s, Juve always had the measure of AC Milan head to head but they were less consistent and did not win the championship. Then, Marcello Lippi (or his predecessor) sole their star flair player, one Roberto Baggio, to AC Milan and then rebuilt the team who went to win the Scudetto and also the Champions' League. Juve did it again when they sold Zinadine Zidane and went on to win the Scudetto more regularly.

Look at Everton, without Sherk, they are playing with more togetherness and coherence. Without Gravesen, they may start to sink and eventually fade away. It is not always the obvious player that is the most important, but the ones who let the so-called stars play their game who are more crucial. The Sammy Lees, the Ian Callaghans, the Ronnie Whelans and it seems at this present moment, Xabi Alonso.

Don't be so overly worried, it may sound cliched but it is not the only one player who makes the club.

Some of us might want to criticise him for occasional bad games, but to me he has been inspirational, and at time carried the entire team alone. But will we miss him if (and when) he leaves? Only time can tell. But £37M is definately a good business for us, and I think with the funds available to Rafa, it will be put to good use. He will be replaced...think back when we replaced Keegan with Dalglish, Rush with Aldo, Souness with McMahon etc...bottomline is the club will move on and how much we can achieve will depends on Rafa.

If there is anyone to be criticise, it will be Moores and Perry. They have been stalling on the investment side of things for too long now. They have also not push the club forward in financial side of things, and letting Houllier nearly bankrupt the club. They let McMoneyman and Owen go for peanuts and we got royally screwed by Real, TWICE!! Better Gerrard goes now than playing with half effort and affecting team morale. Fu-ck him if he disagree withn Rafa's tactics and showing little respect to his teammates. Better Real than Chelsea if you know what I mean...but then I wouldn't mind if Chelsea hit back with a "£45M + Gallas" offer

a lot of fans will be gutted if SG were to leave, they see him as a homegrown talent and at times it is SG that sees us through.

Good as SG is, it is his passion for the club and the game that made him an icon at anfield and when the time come when that passion is no longer there for LFC, it is better to cashout on him.

Sure we could have hold him to his contract (which have another 2 years) but his value will start to diminish from next season onwards.

Much as I hate to see him leave we actually don't have a choice if he doesn't have the heart to play for us anymore.

I really Love him. But the inventable is going to happen and who ever Rafa buys to replace him must be strong not injury prone, and a worker, to many teams are playing 5 in idfield against us and these spaniards cant handle it.
They may be great in the La Liga but they have a lot to prove i the prem.
Im all for Aimar but hes as tall as Garcia same build, only diffrence is between the 2 hes a fantastic player, but I fear we wouldnt see that from him in the prem, with the yard dogs we have in the english clubs booting our players off the park.
Im gutted I knew he was goin but to face reality just hurts

If he wants to go let him go as i dont want to see another Owen situation and team is always bigger then the one player . Though how kosher is this 37 million talk, considering how much Real Madrid were offering for Viera in the off season and considering their previous transfer dealings with us that seems like a rather large amount.
I still be gutted he goes because despite some recent form, i think he is world class though in all honesty the recent "If Liverpool dont start winning im off talk " has taken some of the shine off my extremely biased Liverpool red coloured glasses in regards to him

True Laza very true

But our weeks gone from bad to worse if he goes by the end of the month, no Xabi no Gerrard we have no chance in the champions league.
I think some people have it wrong also there is still a 99% chance he will go to chelsea. Lampards played nearly every game for them this season, and they need cover for him.
