To a point I kind of understand FSG and the rest to be honest, they know that the club could make more money and they tried to take the opportunity. I don't like how people made this look like it was the owners against the fans, it was just a fight between one group of greedy ***** against another.

They tried to turn the English top flight into a irrelevance mate, into a fvcking sideshow, to line their own pockets. Our brilliant tactician owners have just managed to unite this country in a way that only Philip of Spain, Napoleon, the Keizer and Adolf fvcking Hitler have previously done, only problem is they got everyone united against this us, against this club!

Let's look at it from a different angle though mate, what is the English top flight and the Premier League if not another money making machine, especially through Sky. Same goes for UEFA. They're the greedy ones that started all this in the first place. So along comes another greedy party (our owners and owners of the other big clubs and Tottenham) who feel they have a right to more of the cake than they have now, and that's how this all started.

You're right that it would have likely destroyed football in the national leagues and I'm completely against it, but I can see why they tried to push for this Superleague in order to make more money. At the end of the they they're businessmen for crying out loud, what other goal would they have apart from making more money? There are no club owners that I know of that have different motives than profit, apart from maybe the sheiks.

Anyway, all I'm trying to say is that although I don't agree with them I understand why they tried to do it. It wasn't a fight between good and evil, it was a fight between two mega rich parties and that's that.

Surely this was a bit more than sabre rattling at UEFA for a better deal.  They have funding in place and got 12 clubs to sign up. That took time to put in place and they would have gotten away with it only for the fan revolt across the game.

There’s a major difference between the creation of the premier league and this proposed abhorration though dj, the premier league for all its faults didn’t put its finger on the scales on behalf of anyone, yes it pumped money into the game but the clubs had to work hard to earn it, in fact a lot of the prominent teams when the premier league first started like Forest, Sheff Wed, Coventry, Leeds etc found themselves in the lower divisions for extended periods, indeed some are still there. No one was protected, you had to earn your right to be there and to earn the big bucks.
Only 6 teams have been ever present’s and one of those (Everton) escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth so the premier league has been ultra competitive and dynamic.
What these breakaway clubs proposed was a closed shop where the same teams would have been there year after year after year like a footballing Groundhog Day which would have quickly lost its lustre. What they proposed wasn’t a league it was a money making racket, To be fair they didn’t try to hide it, they came out and flat out said that profit was their main motive and the good of the game was secondary.

Arguably the biggest PR disaster in competitive sporting history. Not just the scheme itself but some of the stuff they came out with as well. It’s going to be funny seeing all these clubs release statements one by one which go on about how much their fans mean to them when just 24 hours earlier they were saying they weren’t interested in ‘legacy fans’ it was the fans of the future they were only interested in.
All that stuff about expecting a backlash and being relaxed about it because it has all been factored in only to fold like a fvcking pack of cards a few hours later.

What an embarrassing mess. I hope FSG have some good PR people.

They’ve dragged the name of the club through the mud and turned us into pariah’s, Jurgen was visibly upset yesterday by the abuse he and the players got as they walked through the streets and pulled into Elland Road and Leeds United leaving t-shirts in our dressing room with disparaging slogans on them clearly hurt him as well. He took offence at Gary Neville’s comments about YNWA being meaningless too. The brains trust in Boston come up with these glorious idea’s but it’s poor Jurgen who is the one who has to carry the can. The stick they got in the streets was so bad he even mentioned in his post match prezza that he was concerned what the situation was going to be like back home, Dom King who used to write for the Echo had to tell him no one was blaming him personally but you could see Jurgen was visibly upset and shaken by the events of the day.

At least that will keep them happy for a few years.

They need to invest more than they do currently because this comes with extra games and we barely can cope with the amount we have to play already. I also hope there is no provision in the new format allowing teams who dont qualify a back door based on past merits.

I don't care much for the statement we released either. At least some of the other clubs owned up to the mistake or apologised.

They weren't long acting when that sponsor pulled. Proud of the players and Klopp for not holding back and credit to football fans in general for being united to stop this in its tracks.

Where the BH does £7 Billion come from, how come UEFA have so much money to give away?
No wonder the clubs wanted a smash and grab and no wonder UEFA were scraed of losing the pot that lays golden turds.
If thats indicative of the value of money in circulation, just imagine the corruption at every level of UEFA and FIFA....

All six statements:  https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... -they-said

The Arsenal one reads as though it was written by a 14 year old school girl.
