Anfieldadorer,
If there ever comes a time and day that a player like Gerrard wants to leave, let him go as long as we get a huge bundle of cash for him! If a player who is so coveted in the club and city he plays in wants to leave, then it must be for one or two overwhelming reasons which contributes to the "push factor" inspite of all of the "pull factors" he is already familliar with at Liverpool. Gerrard, above all else, should realise what's he has now at Liverpool. You could never imagine Raul leaving Ral Madrid or Totti leaving Roma.
Take Owen's case - we don't really know why he was so eager to leave as it was never really spoken in public. We can only guess and speculate. I suppose it was because he does not feel that he will be an automatic first choice with Benithez and does not relish the prospect of being rotated as Liverpool has him, Baros, Cisse and Pongolle.
Real Madrid may be a "vogue" place to be but that is because they have Zidane and Figo, two of the best offensive midfielders in the game. However, they are on the wrong side of 30 and will soon either leave or retire as they surely can't go on much longer at that high a level. After this, Madrid looks like declining in the wake of other teams who are on the rise and playing such attractive football - notably Barca who has a young core of attacking players.
Also, Real Madrid fans are so fickle - they are giving a lot of stick Ronaldo a lot of stick because he has not been scoring regularly enough. They adore you but in an instant they can really turn nasty and boo you every time.
The choice is his, Owen's influence or no, but for us, we should ensure we get a bundle if he does go there.
