I know he is young and improvement is a possibility but I simply do not think he is ever going to be good enough to feature regular at the level I hope that we are aspiring to. He has been given several opportunities this season and has generally been extremely poor. I am not sure that he is worth persisting with.

I hear what you're saying, but at just 20 he is still in the 'promising youngster' bracket for me.  If anything, he adds depth to the squad, but it would be unwise to flog him just yet.  Give him another season and see how he progresses

He has gone badly off the boil in the second half of the season and for me there are question marks over his attitude and his concentration levels.
Attitude wise he needs sorting, he has the manner of someone who has been at the top for years and hasnt earnt it.
I hoped for more when he was bombed - a determination to prove the manager wrong etc.
But no, he was on twitter arguing with fans that had criticised him after the West Brom home defeat.

He is young and will probably be on relatively modest-ish wages so i'd give him one more season but with a huge rocket up his erse.
I think Rodgers will do this or ship him out as he doesnt appear to be a man who suffers fools based on the rumours about Adam, Carroll and Enrique that have been doing the rounds.

i`ve been impressed with shelveys attitude mate.
after he was dropped he asked BR if he could play in the under 21`s to get some game time so he obviously hasnt got delusions of grandeur or anything.
in the recent under 21 game against united he scored a wonder goal and then put a hell of a shift in when we went down to 10 men after sama got sent off after just 7 minutes.
there were a few nasty challenges flying around and the game threatened to get out of hand and to be fair to shelvey he was right in the thick of it, infact the united players seemed a bit intimidated by him.
he certainly didnt strike me as someone who had an attitude problem or someone who didnt take pride in the shirt, quite the opposite infact.

I dont mean he is lazy mate.
Foe me he looks like he thinks he has been there and done it.
Spitting his dummy out on the pitch.
There was a moment in the draw against newcastle at home where the ball wasnt passed to him first time and he threw his hands in the air and his head back. By the time he looked up the ball had been played to him but he had totally lost concentration.
Maybe Rodgers early praise of him and his England cap got to his head a bit.

He may have asked to play for the U21's for matches but it's when he get's chances in the first team i want to see more, from what i have heard of his performance against Fulham is that he struggled.

I dont doubt his determination. Although that does need to be channelled correctly also.
Some of his challenges are similar to ones Gerrard used to make when he was younger. I do actually like that side of his game but in football these days the FA and media dont and he will spend alot of time suspended if he doesnt calm down a bit.

Like i said i'd keep him but i'd be saying to him this season is make or break and he needs to step up when given chances.

lots of players show their frustration mate, look how demonstrative the likes of suarez and kenny dalglish are/were on the pitch.
and as you have said yourself shelvey isnt the first up and coming CM to be a bit rash in regards to his tackling.
he`s only 20 and he is going to go through peaks and troughs in form at that age.

We aren't using Shelvey in the right position.  He doesn't have the guile or skill to play as an attacking midfielder.  He is a fantastic athlete and very physical.  We should be using him as a box-box midfielder a bit like what we have done with Henderson.

I do rate the lad though and people forget he is so young because he looks about 35!  Worth keeping hold of to see how he develops.

I'm not sure about him - he was ok early doors - his fan rating went through the roof when he got sent off against the Scum even though it was a reckless tackle. Seen him play a lot more bad games than good. But he has ability to score goals. He could possibly go on loan next season

With proper coaching he could be a great player. I wouldn't give up on him just yet.

Something is holding him back. Is it skill related, or attitude, where he fits into BRod's strategy or.... what?

Very difficult to assess this lad from afar but clearly there's a missing piece to the jigsaw. Hair?

The fella's obviously blessed with some skill but like Reg I think there's something missing . We signed Shelvey 3 years ago this month and for the life of me I can see bugger all difference between the player he was then and the player he is now.

His development has definitely stalled.

The fella's obviously blessed with some skull but like Reg I think his hair is missing . We signed Shelvey 3 years ago this month and for the life of me I can see bugger all growth (of the follicle variety) between the player he was then and the player he is now.
