Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Never a massive fan of Shelvey on or off the field. Maybe he will prove himself when the pressure isn't so great.

Good luck JJ.

Jonjo Shelvey £6m Swansea transfer agreed by Liverpool

Midfielder travelling to South Wales today to finalise move

Jonjo Shelvey is set for a move to Swansea City after Liverpool FC agreed a deal worth £6m for the midfielder.

The 21-year-old was expected at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, where he will undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with the Welsh club.

A deal should be completed in the next 24 hours.

A number of other Premier League clubs, including Norwich City and newly-promoted Crystal Palace, had expressed an interest in the former Charlton Athletic man, with Palace lodging a bid worth around £5m earlier this week.

But Swansea's eagerness to push through a deal looks to have won the day.

Swans boss Michael Laudrup is a fan of the England cap, with the club keen to add young, British talent to their squad.

It is understood that the fee for Shelvey is dependant on a series of performance-related add-ons, with Liverpool hoping to eventually receive £6m from the transfer.

Shelvey made a total of 69 appearances for the Reds after joining in 2010, scoring seven times. He made his senior international debut in November of last year.

I personally thought he was worth persisting with and to be honest am a little disappointed that we offloaded for what seems a paltry figure.

FWIW I think regular games is what he needed to develop, he'll get that at Swansea and good luck to him. In my opinion he has the ability to develop into a very good PL player.

Good luck to him.

SCS at the end of the day anything is only worth what you can get for it. There was no bidding war, no one stepped in for him when you would have thought Norwich, WBA etc.. might have been interested etc..

So who was the better buy, Carroll at 17,  Shelvey at 6 or Ince at 8?

Probably Ince at 8, but I think we'll be regretting the Shelvey sale in a few years, or worse be buying him back for significantly more.

£6mil is fair price for him. He would struggle for playing time.

Barring injury, I bet he is a first pick this season

Just another example how much we overvalue lfc players.
Shelvey just one example of countless others.
One simple question:

How many players over the years have we got rid of that has become really good players??? I mean got rid, not players that has forced a move or wanted to leave.
Practically none, that how many!

When I hear supporters going on how world class Agger is/was I just shake my head.
So he can pass the ball but not defend for his life and gets bullied by big strikers all the time.
World class, you gotta be kidding me... :no

A tidy sum. I'd have sold him for that. Hopefully we've managed to include a sell-on clause in the deal just in case he becomes the next Stevie G

Seems like its probably right to sell him at this point and 6M is a decent fee I think.

Once again though, its a shame to see yet another young player that we were excited about fail to make the grade here.
Seems to be a trend of us having a lot of good young players and eventually they get a bit older, can't get much game time and leave / get sold.

We just can't seem to get these youngsters the game time they need.

Good luck at Swansea Jonjo, scored some great goals for England U21's ...........errrrrr thats about it really.

I think its fair to say the only time the Kop realised you had a pulse was your bust up with Taggart after getting sent off.

6 million is a fair price for one of the reds perennial underachievers ,its a pity though because the lad had the talent to shine.

Think we have done alright out that really.

See how he goes at Swansea where he will get game time, when he's not suspended I suspect.

Least we are not just hanging on to lads who are treading water these days and cutting them
loose and trying another option is the best policy totally.

+ 2.8 million received on the Ince sale = 9 million = straight swop for the Spanish lad.
